After the most heartfelt and personal story in Kirby's run on Mister Miracle, one of the most stunning in the whole Fourth World saga...we get the kind of inconsequential action story that Kirby could toss off without effort. Even at the time it came out, it was so clear to me Kirby had been ordered to wrap up the whole Apokolips thing and make this more of a normal comic right away.
It's never really spelled out in the story but it's heavily indicated that Scott and company have inadvertently travelled to the future. And at the end of the tale, it seems Mike McCracken has arrived back in the present day with the rest of the cast. He then disappears, which always made me wonder what he got up to on his own...
