Roma sends the X-Men to Australia.

The Reavers return to their lair, where the X-Men loe in wait.

But they’re not the best at what they do like some people.

If Professor Xavier was there he would just wipe everybody’s minds.

Next: All-Star Squadron #4.

Did we skip an issue here?

"I don't remember any Overgoddess Ragu."
"That's because you don't read the British comics."

The Reavers.
Because apparently what the X-Men really needed at this point was a roving band of cyborg S&M enthusiasts?
(oh look one of them has the ability to brainwash people into permanently becoming more reavers
oh and checking the wiki that's Tyger-Tyger from Wolverine, because having her mind futzed with turned her slightly evil, because 'course it did)

It's nice of Claremont to take a break from his usual routine to have the X-Men stand around moralising and pontificating at one another.

While X-Men has sixty two years of history which naturally means a few things are going to get overlooked sooner or later in any retrospective, starting to think there might be a reason the Australia era is not exactly held as one of the greats.

It’s not? I loved the Outback era.

Yeah, I mean, weird bio-mechanical cyborg body transformation BDSM inflected baddies with psychic powers to make you all sexy and evil is pretty much peak Claremont. Personally, it's a flavor I usually dig on.

If anything, I'd say the Australian Outback era is remembered overly fondly compared to how much actually happened in it.

Exactly. I think it's more memorable simply because the different setting and consistent cast make it easier to differentiate. It's memorable because it's literally easy to remember.

Like Krakoa! And the Extinction team on Utopia! Which I also loved.

I'm a sucker for non-mansion locales.

Wasn't this run when Madelyne Pryor did her heel turn and became the Goblin Queen? Due to S'ym and N'astirh tracking her down from afar when left by her lonesome in the X-Men's base, as I recall, despite Roma's assurances that no enchantments could do so.

I can think of a few possibilities.

1) Roma is nearly as full of shit as her dad.

2) Roma's magic isn't nearly as strong as editorial's desire to paper over the time Cyclops just abandoned his wife and newborn.

3) Both.

Roma - not actively malicious like Merlyn, but not nearly as helpful as she should be.
Sort of like a cosmic Val Cooper.
(Egad, what a horrifying thought.)

New status quo, new villains, same old corruption fetish.

Really loved Silvestri's art back then.

I don't think they ever explained how the X-Men stopped being undetectable. I guess it can be no-prized with Siege Perilous this, new body that, or even healing factor, but I wish it was more of a plot point.
