I think we all expected the animation/Ultimate comics route of turning the characters into their alter egos one by one over the years, doing it all at once as an act of intimidation was really out of the blue! I wonder if they'll blame Bruce or Gotham? Waylon wasn't taken because of Batman, he just fit their profile.
...how is Harvey alive? FOURTH degree burns? That's charring his bones. As for Oswald...why are they even keeping him alive? There comes a point where death is just better. Ozzy passed it several whomps ago.
Bane is really good at not killing people but making them wish he had, and the reason is to turn Bruce's friends against him, break them or at least break him
I honestly find this incredibly dull. It seemed like the Mister Freeze two-parter might be setting up the notion of a Batman who goes increasingly extreme and off-the rails (possibly because his mentor is a mercenary), and a set of rogues who were and still ARE his friends, turning to supervillainy in order to stop him - or while trying to stop him.
But no, it's a four-way friends-in-refrigerators supervillain origin, all at once. Barely ten minutes to establish them as his friends before WHOMP WHOMP WHOMPing them into Xtreme Edge versions of their regular selves. What a waste.
I'm holding out hope that instead of this turning them into his rogue's gallery he sets up a support group for them and they start on a journey of emotional healing.
ahhhhhhh dangit it was so COOL when instead of villains they were his friends. This seems like the first wrong step I've seen this series take, but maybe it's not heading where I expect it to.
Also, "This is all your fault, Bruce! Not the vicious criminal who actually did this to me, but you! The kind, noble person whose efforts to make life better for others provoked the bad guy's rage! You shouldn't have made him angry by trying to stop him from doing whatever he wants!" is ... a depressingly familiar sentiment in this day and age.
Why would they remove the impetus for the whole thing? I mean sure, they'll fight eventually, but they haven't announced anything like that for the near future
because Darkseid's Legion and the time is broken stuff because of Darkseid have to be dealt with and it's pretty obvious that connects to the Absolute Universe, so to deal with that they have to deal with Darkseid as god of the Absolute Universe plot
But why would they want to resolve it so quickly after the success they've been having with the Absolute Universe? Once they deal with it, it's done. Even if the Absolute series kept going, they'd probably lose some steam at least, which means less sales.

Date: 2025-09-13 12:42 am (UTC)--um, wait, that's something entirely different--
In the ABSOLUTEVERSE all is misery, there is no joy or healing, only brutality, despair and nihilism.
Hence, all of Bruce's traditional foes must start as childhood friends before being brutalized and turned into freaks.
But it would still be super-cool if they didn't become his enemies. It's just not looking good so far.
