Lot of human failings this issue.

(Most of them - Jo, Guy, Cameron, John when he's talking about how he eventually gave in to Bill Hand - explicitly acknowledge it over this and the next issue.

The only characters that don't are Jo's dad, Todd Rice's dad, and Bill Hand - two fathers, and an older man in a position of authority. Wonder if that's saying something.)

I think given this book's meditation on colour, it's safe to say that "Abby" is a cameo from the Absolute version of Abigail Arcane - someone else known for an abusive father figure (her uncle Anton).

This is the most I've been invested in Cameron Chase

Art makes her look kinda cray-cray in the face-ay in parts of this though.

Yeah. That face she's making when proposing should've probably have been a red flag for Jo on its own.

To be fair, we don't see her face when she pops the question - that's off-panel - and the crazy face is her self-debasing reaction to Jo's shock.

This issue focuses on Jo, Cameron and Renee's toxic mess.

And the next issue has appearances from Steve Dayton, Terry Long and Nemesis.
All three of whom have their own messed up relationships.
Hmm.


Speaking of bad relationships, going by her approach in the next issue, wondering if Cameron letting Jo in is entirely because of loving her despite the crashing and burning of their marriage or because Jo is now a case for her to investigate.

I am loving this book, though it’s damn close to Morrison levels of making me feel like I’m not smart enough to understand what’s going on.

This issue definitely at an interesting cross section of the inherent potential for human flaws and a universe where the moral arc bends bad to start.
