With tcampbell1000's excellent JLI retrospective on holiday hiatus, I thought I'd throw up these two issues of The Authority written by Giffen and DeMatteis.

Why? You'll see soon enough.







So yes, Midnighter and Apollo have a familiar relationship dynamic. Casting the team's gay couple as the Blue and Gold equivalent feels like a very deliberate choice on Giffen and DeMatteis's part.






Once the obligatory misunderstanding fight is finished...







Issue #9, sadly, has much less of Slightly Gayer Beetle and Booster, but it have other interesting bits.





Midnighter is the Ted Kord equivalent, and he just knocked a guy named Max off a very great height. Countdown to Infinite Crisis was 5 years earlier. There may be subtext here.
