I'm still gonna sit down and, like, start writing a new issue. I'll suddenly think, ‘Oh, what if I threw this in there?’ I threw Terry Long into an issue. Not for very long. Nobody needs to worry. The green power can't affect gold things. Just being gold-colored is enough, but actual gold has a bigger effect.

It's a callback to the (heh) golden-age weakness, but also a reflection of the philosophical bent of this run: Gold is the colour of the highest level of understanding, and since Jo doesn't understand her new powers at all, she's weak to it.

See also the interlude a couple issues ago, where the other Green wielders were easily defeated by Kilowog, because their understanding doesn't account for the unthinking, will-focused fascism of the Blackstars; but Kilowog and his comrades were equally trounced by Re, the Tomar, because he wields the stolen Red power without abiding by its rules.

(This also shows up in the latest issue when Wb hfrf ure cbjref gb fgno Tbyqsnpr gb qrngu - abg rknpgyl gur Nova/Terra perqb bs "pbeerpg npgvba", hfrq gb qb jung'f evtug. Which makes Jo and Re just as dangerous to the cosmic order of things - if she, like Re and Sinestro, realises that she is not limited by the rules, she could become immensely powerful.)

Are Goldface, Sarge Steel, and Nemesis the same character? I guess if the government has in-house supervillians, they can rotate monikers.

Goldface and Nemesis, sure.
(But not sure where Sarge Steel comes into it.)

The Black said face of steel, and he looks pretty one to one with Sarge Steel of the main universe. Nemesis is usually blonde in his natural look.

Not sure that is Sarge Steel, just that he and unmasked Goldface happen to look very similar.

"Enemies Fear The Face Of Steel" was the original core oath of the Manhunters when they were first introduced. It's kinda implied that it refers to Sinestro, as the cyborg Abin of the Black stars, but it also connects to Keith aka Nemesis aka Boldface because this whole book has a "Twin Peaks" styling where concepts are both literally and philosophically true.
