“Donny and Ryan did an amazing job because they refused to make him anything less than an epic threat, and so the only way to beat Knull is to get up on his level, so heroes are forced to grasp these big epic moments themselves, and that's great. Plus, it's rare that we get villains who are so completely evil in that very old-school way. From one angle, Knull's very 90s, in a good way - that big, bold energy that comics were running on like rocket fuel at the time - but from another, he's got that 60s villain energy in that there's no dealing with him, no humanizing him. It's time he came back and did his thing again.” — Al Ewing

Villains who are so completely evil are rare?
Aren't comics spamming characters like Carnage, Bullseye, Sabretooth, current Thanos (very different from Starlin's Thanos) or Joker all the time? They are the most overexposed, boring villains.

Agreed. Marvel has no shortage of just evil villains, and it's kinda boring.

Eh. Dunno if making a total (K)null into the main character is going to bode well for marketing.

Hate Knull.
Love Ewing.
At least it looks like Ewing's able to create a coherent thread with all of the Knull/symbiote stuff, and this ties in to his Thor story which is a bonus.

As I see it, Ewing is doing with Knull what ought to have been done with Nekron, or the humanoid Starro The Conqueror - upon establishing them as a gigantic threat, immediately strip them down to their basest form to show *how* they became that big threat.

I'm largely a proponent of "There's no such thing as a bad character, only bad writing." I certainly don't care about Knull, but Al Ewing is a very good writer, so I'll be reading.

See, I can't get behind this. Villains like Knull should be one and done. You can't hype them up THAT much, have a huge battle with a crazy McGuffin (in this instance, Captain Universe Venom wielding a weapon made out of Mjolnir and the Silver Surfer's board) end it, just to bring him back. Especially without a decent reason for him to return. Eddie lost his position as the King in Black, so Knull is alive again? The position wasn't MADE for Knull. It was offered to him.

Ewing's Venom did point out someone's got to be the King in Black.
It was meant to be Peter Parker, but he Petered that up good, so it went to Eddie, and he went and Petered it up as well.

Hela and Swear Word are someones.

Knull wasn't someone. He was dead. Surely it could have gone to a living someone.

Love the art in this. Not super well versed in Knull lore, though.
