The last two issues have been somewhat preachy, with the HERO/Batman issue having a family unfriendly Aesop of "It's alright to kill somewhat if they get a chance to redeem themselves first" and the second having the Aesop of "The military are true heroes."

Except that wasn't the message of the HERO one. A guy found salvation through his own actions, and a kid found he didn't want to die.

Yeah, it requires a great deal of twisting to go from "boy doesn't stop redeemed criminal from choosing to die heroically saving lives" to "killing is OK".
