Four pages from MA: Spider-Man 57



Things start out with a (badly) costumed psychic criminal calling herself 'The Silencer' makes a street full of people pass out, then confronts Peter, calling him out as Spider-Man. Pete reluctantly agrees to fight her, and promptly whups her, before she stuns him as well. Afterwards, Peter and Chat have it out over their respective secrets.

Chat goes home, aaaaaand....







Later, Peter moves in on a bank robbery in progress at a bank, disables all but one of the mooks, and suddenly!



And cue the punching. (: Ah. Pete.

Yes. It's Spider-man as he should be, not as Marvel has messed him up. In one issue, he uses his power of nerdness to save the day. It was beautiful. :D

Although her she looks quite a bit older than Chat, which she didn't in the earlier issues.

Although she has a really nice ass.

I just love MA!Emma. In fact, I love the idea of Emma as a high school Libby. Which just makes me sad they never got around to using her in X-men: Evolution.

I really find this version of Emma Frost to be an interesting character. On one level, she's totally amoral and manipulative and makes no bones about it. On the other, she genuinely seems to care for Chat as a friend. I mean, she's right; there's absolutely nothing Chat could or would do to stop her from turning Peter into her little boytoy, but she backs down when she realizes that this would hurt her friend. The notable thing about this exchange, though, is that at no time does she ever display any guilt about her original intentions - she genuinely doesn't understand why anyone would be offended by her 'if I want it, I take it' viewpoint on life, and seems to think that anyone else would do the same thing. She comes thiiiiiis close to being genuinely villainous, but at the same tim, she's obviously a devoted friend. It makes for an interesting mix.
Also, that 'Because I'm SPIDER-MAN!' page is beyond awesome. Spidey should be badass intimidating like that more often.

I do dig how, when Emma's all "yeah, whadda YOU gonna do about it?" towards Chat and her threats, Chat's response seems to basically be summoning a whole load of small animals to start annoying her until she gives in.

Peter/Sophia is really starting to grow on me. Hopefully my hopes won't be dashed the way Peter/Kitty did in the Ultiverse.

And Peter had treat her right. Unless he wants to find out what happens whenever he hears the words parsley, intractable, and longitude.

Okay, question. MA: Spidey had a soft reboot when Paul Tobin came on, right? So I don't need to have read the earlier issues to follow his run? If that's correct, when did it start?
