delicious blue beetle meta
Feb. 13th, 2010 01:05 pmBooster Gold #29 features the last Blue Beetle back-up. This arc felt very rushed, but Matthew Sturges managed to tell this last story within a couple issues.
Basically Khaji Da/Scarab has been acting much more violently since the end of the series when he was reset. Jaime feels drawn back to the pyramid where the scarab was originally found, and the original Reach programing takes over. Thankfully, he brought friends and Peacemaker also pops up, drawn back as well by his own relationship to the scarab.
Explosions happen, then everyone goes home, and we have one last page of cuddly meta fun:

(d'aww.)
In related news, among the solicits yesterday was the one for Justice League: Generation Lost #1-2, which addressed some of the concerns I personally had:
"JUSTICE LEAGUE: GENERATION LOST #1-2
Issue #1 on sale MAY 12 • Issue #2 on sale MAY 26 • 40 pg (#1), 32 pg (#2), FC, $2.99 US
Written by KEITH GIFFEN & JUDD WINICK • Issue #1 art by AARON LOPRESTI • Covers by TONY HARRIS
Issue #1 1:50 variant cover by KEVIN MAGUIRE • Issue #2 1:25 variant cover by KEVIN MAGUIRE
Spinning out of BRIGHTEST DAY, DC’s new biweekly event begins here! Someone is targeting the old members of the defunct Justice League International. Now, surviving members Booster Gold, Captain Atom, Fire and Ice have to figure out what unseen mastermind is threatening to destroy the entire Super Hero community! There are no gray areas here – it’s black and white and red with blood all over for this lost generation of Super Heroes as original JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL writer Keith Giffen is joined by superstar scribe Judd Winick (BATMAN, GREEN ARROW) for a new era in excitement! And don’t miss the monumental reteaming of Giffen and his former JLI writing partner J.M. DeMatteis on this month’s BOOSTER GOLD #32!
Retailers please note: These issues will ship with two covers each. Please see the Previews Order Form for more information."
and there was much rejoicing. ...although now I'm worried about this "black and white and red with blood all over" business.

Date: 2010-02-13 06:45 pm (UTC)"The scarab loses all its character development, just so Jaime can angst a while, then gets all better thanks to an explosion."
And didn't a series by He Who May Not Be Posted do the same meta-commentary about being canceled?
No offense to Messrs Sturges & Pfeifer, but BB #25 was a much stronger ending to the storylines. And we all know Milagro is going to be the next Ion. :D

Date: 2010-02-13 07:17 pm (UTC)agreed, but just because Endgame was such a great story doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the issues that followed.
ideally I would have preferred to see the adventures of Jaime and his superawesome family continue so we could have seen more stories as good or better than Endgame.

Date: 2010-02-13 10:19 pm (UTC)Yes. And funnier IMO, for being slightly more subtle (and having more to draw on, admittedly, in the fact that Tim's solo was still going).

Date: 2010-02-13 06:59 pm (UTC)Like what happened to Panda after Gail Simone left the All New Atom. Because Gravity knows we can't have fun characters these days, no siree.
What happened to the All New Atom anyway? I liked that guy.
