And Nooo, this isn't a trailer for the actually pretty good Robert Downey Jr. movie (it was awesome, admit it!) this is a movie made by the film company, the Asylum. They have made such films in the past as Transmorphers, the Day the Earth Stopped (Fox sued them so this didn't get released), and a War of the World's movie to capitalise on the Steven Spielburg version.

They're like that company that makes such movies as : 'What's Up! Balloon to the Rescure!' (Up), 'the Little Cars in the Great Race' (Cars), 'the Little Panda Fighter' (Kung Fu Panda) etc.

Anyway, due to the wonders of the public domain that allowed them to make the War of the Worlds movie, they bring you this. It's already out on DVD, and has the actor who played Ianto Jones in Torchwood as Watson and that English guy from Enterprise as Springheeled Jack.

"Dr. Watson? Who is 'he'?"

You're talking to Doctor fecking Watson, love -- who exactly do you think 'he' is going to be?

It could be she only went to her GP to have her bunions scraped and so has no clue that THIS Doctor Watson is THAT Doctor Watson.

Given the dialogue, it seems that Elderly Dr. Watson is fond of corralling his bunion patients into scribbling down his top secret memoirs then...

If I judged an Asylum film by it's dialogue it wouldn't ever come out of the shrink wrap...

Did they use that dino in the clockworks clip twice?

Funny thing is, bad as the film certainly is, the trailer looks fun. Too bad that's probably all the good footage in the whole thing.

I can't help but wonder what the real one would have been like with robots and dinosaurs now.

Maybe it's just me, but the dinosaurs also remind me of Besson's upcoming Adèle movie.

I love the Asylum in a very unhealthy way. They make bad movies and I get all of my snark out instead of letting it fester inside of me.

I like "Sherlock Holmes" too; even though the actual mystery of the movie wasn't all that interesting, the characters, pretty cinematography, and performances kept me thoroughly entertained.

Can't wait to see Brad Pitt's Moriarty too...

On another note, from the movie's intro onwards, I couldn't help but think that it's a shame Batman Begins and Dark Knight didn't seize the opportunity to paint Batman as an effortless badass brainiac the same way Ritchie did for Holmes.

I know Holmes is obviously the originator in that relationship, but watching Holmes throw on random disguises and using his knowledge of anatomy to plan out surgical strikes on his foes before the first punch is even thrown made me think, "dude that is so Batman..." while I was watching the movie.

Agreed. "Observation Fu" should be Batman's textbook fighting style.

you know the other day SyFy actually aired Transmorphers.

Can you believe that?

Considering MST3k was able to do a SyFy movie WHILE being on the network, I would not be surprised.

I didn't know that. Although I've always thought they'd do with those movies if they recorded an MST3K version right along with the ones they air.

Yeah, "Quest of the Delta Knights", which was one of the later episodes (Pearl era) was also one of the very first SyFy original movies.

It's a notable episode because PEarl actually goes into the theater and joins the riffing.

I really wish there was any sort of relevant comic pages so I could make a mst3k thread.

Is Springheeled Jack the guy in the metal suit? I kind of wanted to see it just because Springheeled Jack was in it, but if he doesn't look like a bat in high heels I'll be disappointed.

Never go into an Asylum movie with any hopes, they will always be broken.

Asylum is amazing in the pure balls they have.

Hmmm . . .

Sherlock Holmes vs. a dinosaur.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created Sherlock Holmes and wrote The Lost World, a journey to a land that time forgot, where dinosaurs still lived.

I don't know if that's clever, or stupid . . .

I will not admit it. Downey was awesome, but not as an actor: as a star. The production design was amazing, especially that street. You know the one, because they keep walking down and getting their asses kicked on the same one again and again. Office to docks, docks to office, on and on. And I'm not even mentioning that the evil plot of the feckless villain makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and in fact is pretty sad.

Downey & Law, Steampunk Detectives: call it that and I'm fine. But I'm not even a Sherlock Holmes fan and even I knew that was just wrong.

The movie did have a very odd idea of how England was governed. Even if he managed to take out both the Houses of Parliament (I only saw the House of Lords there) Queen Victoria was doing just fine, and unlikely to cede control of the country to a magician.

Oh, and running from the Houses of Parliament to Tower Bridge is a long way, especially if you go under the river instead of over a bridge.

Parts of London did look very good, though. I liked seeing the Pool of London.

As a Sherlock Holmes fan I'd like to state the actual book canon had one mystery where the solution turned out to be "the guy was drinking monkey hormones and it turned him into a monster". Seriously.
