[personal profile] mllesays asked for early interactions between Tim and Conner, so I'm posting a few pages from the World's Finest Three mini-series (1996), where they met for the first time.

What happened so far: Metallo got tired of destroying Metropolis and tries out Gotham for a change. Oh, and he stole a nuclear reactor. Unfortunately, Batman is out of town and Robin has to take care of a big, tank-like Metallo on his own, which - he fears - is a bit out of his league.

Poor Timmy... though Superboy is totally busy kissing "Miss Kryptonite"-contestants, he takes off to Gotham when he hears that Metallo is on the rampage there.
And as if all that isn't already trouble enough, Poison Ivy felt danger approaching the city, got sick, manipulated the meds taking care of her on their way to the hospital and is now running around freely.
In the meantime Tim tracked down Metallo...

(Ok, I admit that I only posted this scan because of the combination of metallic tentacles and a Robin. *cough*)
A~and Kon arrives!

Kon manages to destroy the currently blind Metallo, but brings the building down as well.

Time for Tim to pack out the kryptonite ring.

If there's interest, I could also post scans of the second part tomorrow.

He was a stupid, wise-cracking jock, yes, but he was also real and he had real heart and warmth and adorable teen cockiness and none of this teen emo angst that Johns seems to think can supplant actual character. I loved the hell out of him in YJ (where he got some great organic character development and eventual maturity). When I saw what Johns had done to him in TT, I nearly got whiplash. Conner's grown on me since then, but I still can't reconcile emo!Conner Kent and the perky adorkable flirt that was Kon-El.

what's so great about real when you're reading fiction? I've always found the idea that people will be the same no matter how different the situation is pretty ridiculous.

I meant real as in beliveable.

So by your logic, there's no such thing as OOC?

not at all. I consider that consistency. When I say "the same" I'm talking about human beings from the DCU with visible gods, aliens living among them etc. etc. being the same as people in the real world.
