Well, as you may or may not have heard, the first issue of a new Warren Ellis comic began this month.

Anyone want to place bets on whether it will come out in a timely manner or go the way of Desolation Jones/Morning Dragons/Fell/newuniversal/Black Horses/Doktor Sleepless/Jack Cross/The Operation?

Charlie the policeman is chasing someone who seems to have murdered a fellow officer when the trail goes strange...

Enh, I might borrow this out of curiousity at some point.

Though the dialogue at the beginning strikes me as rather...off (flintlock, revolver, pepper box, I know the diffs but a gun is a gun and name dropping them feels really weird.)

When I read the issue, I took it like this, "Watch out, your gun only fires once but his does several times!" "No, mine also fires more than once you stupid plank!"

The interesting things about this issue is that it burrows into the beginnings of the Met somewhat, including at the time how no one liked them. The case is cited in the issue where a man is released from a murder charge because the victim was a policeman, for example.

I also read in an actual history book that a magistrate at the time deliberately tried to get his coachdriver to mow down policemen while he was out and about in the city.

Um, no, especially in the early days guns are not interchangeable items, each one roughly equivalent to the other. Those are three very different /types/ of guns, even.

The dialogue feels off for the 1830's.

I picked up the first issue out of curiosity, but I don't think I'll be going back for seconds. This one just didn't have a strong enough hook to keep me, and I didn't like the characters enough to particularly care what happens to them. I do like the art, though.

If you haven't seen this yet, check this out. It's a video advert for Seth Grahame-Smith's new book, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Now I'd pay to see this as a movie! Go Abe! (Warning it's kind of bloody)

Warren Ellis discovers steampunk; the probability of this being posted in Boing Boing approaches 1.

Criminey Christmas, Warren Ellis. How many one-shots and limited series and on-again-off-agains can one man maintain?
