From http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/2010/03/17/discover-red-hood-the-lost-days/
The Red Hood’s very presence haunts the Dark Knight’s every waking hour.
But how did the Red Hood come to be? What trials did he go through before donning the gleaming red helmet, during those formative years before he crossed paths with Batman?
Writer Judd Winick and artist Pablo Raimondi hope to answer that question in June, with the debut of RED HOOD: THE LOST DAYS, a six-issue mini-series revealing the untold story of the man behind the Red Hood. It’s the tale of an angry young man’s transformation into a deadly villain.
The cover...

Yes, that's right. HIS HAIR IS BLACK.
More stuff.....
What else is there to say? We went straight to, well, the source on this one - writer Judd Winick. Take it away, Judd:
“I’m thrilled to return to this character, and it’s both a joy and challenge to tackle this new story. LOST DAYS tracks the time from the Red Hood’s rebirth to his return to Gotham. In it, we get to understand this anti-hero in a new way. I think it explains both how he’s sympathetic, and an unrepentant monster. He’s a wonderfully complex character, and I hope this adds some even greater depth to his mythology.”
The series will ship its first two issues in anticipation of the arrival of BATMAN: UNDER THE RED HOOD DVD arriving in stores. The DVD, the next entry in the popular ongoing series of DC UNIVERSE Animated Original PG-13 Movies, hits this summer from Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation and showcases Batman confronting new enemies, old foes and painful memories as a powerful vigilante with a penchant for violence comes to Gotham to stake his claim on the city.
And hey, Judd’s got a few things to say about the DVD, too:
“I can barely describe the fun and terror that went into adapting two years worth of story into one film, but the results will be something that will knock everyone on their cans. I couldn’t be prouder, and I’m itching for everyone to get a look.”
....Huzzah!

Date: 2010-03-17 04:36 pm (UTC)My hope is that this can kind of clean up downward spiral that has been the last two years of Jason Todd (Countdown weirdness, BftC badness, etc). I would love to see Jason back where he was with UtH, The Outsiders, etc. On the wrong side of the line with Batman and co., but not FREAKING INSANE EVIL OMG I SHOOT CHILDREN.
Also? One last comment?
FINALLY.
Capslock fangirl ahoy!
Date: 2010-03-17 04:46 pm (UTC)Also, I wonder if this is what they were talking about Talia/Jason interaction or if it's something else?
I just thought you know, since I have more characters to write this in, I'd say it here than on Twitter. And you know, coz I love you!

Date: 2010-03-17 05:06 pm (UTC)And really weird, because I just (try yesterday) finished reading "Death in the Family" and "Under the Hood" for the first time. I was surprised that though I've seen scans from "Death", it was still heartbreaking. And I loved Jason in Hood (though I was kinda mad that it played out like it was between "real" story lines, like, "oh we're going to bring hood back let's stick him in here then drop Chemo on Bludhaven"..."huh?").
And the Jason in Batman in Robin was really weird, I thought.

Looking forward to this. Hopefully Winick can make some sense of whatever-the-hell Battle for the Cowl and Batman and Robin did to Jason.
However, I am not sure about that domino mask made of eye make-up you're sporting there, JToddz. It looks like what Smallville's Black Canary wore.

Date: 2010-03-18 03:46 am (UTC)Back when the Steph/Tim reunion scenes from Batgirl and Red Robin were posted last week, I asked if Tim and Steph had ever had sex, canonically. The consensus was that while Steph had done the deed and gotten pregnant by Dean, she and Tim had never done the deed, and there was no canonical evidence that Tim was anything but a virgin.
So that settles the question for two Robins, and of course we all know what Dick's scorecard looks like by now. But what about Jason? Is there anything in canon to suggest he's had anything resembling a sex life?
I vaguely recall in his Robin days there was a little classmate that lit his fuse, who met him after school and offered him weed, but I don't remember how that played out. There was opportunity for Talia to take advantage of him post-resurrection, and opportunity for Red Hood and Scarlet to be more than partners, but no strong evidence for either IIRC.
Anyone got anything else? Fellow Jason fans?

From:let's try this...
Date: 2010-03-18 09:09 am (UTC)I got a question regarding Jason Todd's background.
This guy on DA says that Terry McGinnis and Jason Todd have a lot in common and I said, well, not entirely because of their different familial and economic background. Terry was born into the suburban/educated family but was a product of divorce and became a delinquent when he fell in with the wrong crowd. Jason was born into a poor/criminal/uneducated environment and was a product of neglect and poverty and became a delinquent for survival.
Guy responds to me like this...
First off, a few of the things you wrote are incorrect. Jason was born into the same kind of family as Terry, but ran away and found his way onto the streets. We later learn there's a bit of a mix-up about who his mother really is, which leads into the "Death in the Family" arc and eventually his death. After that we learn Jason was from an upper middle class background (which would actually make him born into a wealthier family than Terry, especially after his father is murdered). Speaking of, the fact that they are both "fatherless" with Bruce being the exception is another thing they share in common.
Er...when did Jason run away from his home? I thought his mom died and he was left without a guardian since his father was nowhere to be found and thus ended up on the streets. And although I know his mother was a doctor of some sort, she left him, didn't she? so even if he was born to an educated woman, he still grew up in crime alley...or am I wrong in this? Did she live with him? or...did Jason ever live in a normal house, even as a toddler? Was his father always a criminal? I don't remember how Jason even found out he had a different mother....
Scans Daily help! ;o;
Re: let's try this...
Date: 2010-03-18 12:14 pm (UTC)OK. Catherine Todd, his stepmother, IIRC, died of *something.* I believe Batman has said she was a drug addict. Willis Todd was the criminal who worked for Two-Face. I know there's been speculation that he was abusive, but I don't think that's every been stated in canon.
It doesn't say when Jason started living on the streets, actually. We just know that he is a street kid, stealing to survive.
I think he found out he had a different mother while looking through Batman's files on the computer or something. I can't remember exactly! It's in A Death in the Family. He found out about his dad the same way.
