"You heard us mention a while back that Paul Levitz would be writing a Batman Beyond-centric SUPERMAN/BATMAN annual in June — but that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Terry McGinnis, the Batman of the future who is guided by an elderly Bruce Wayne in his efforts to protect Neo Gotham.

Starting in June, BATMAN BEYOND — a six-issue mini-series from writer Adam Beechen (who’s no stranger to animated characters, having worked on The Batman series a few years back) and artist Ryan Benjamin — will pit the future Dark Knight against his own past, as a dangerous force has begun to target Bruce Wayne’s old foes. Can Wayne’s past put Terry’s future in danger?

Not sure, gang. Let’s check in with Adam Beechen himself. Take it away, Adam:

“The dark future of the legendary animated series comes to the DCU in a six-issue miniseries, as Terry McGinniss, Bruce Wayne’s young successor as Batman, faces his deadliest foe yet — a mystery murderer from the Dark Knight’s past! Old faces return, new allies and enemies step into the light, and the partnership between Terry and Bruce — not to mention Terry and Bruce themselves — might not survive!”

Thanks, Adam! And for good measure, we’ve got the cover to the first issue, from superstar artist Dustin Nguyen above."

Yeah, misspelling the main character's name. Good start that.

This for legality, but if it's a photoshop I'll change it for something else,

All excitement for this died the instant Beechen was announced.

He's not a terrible writer. He's done better with his animated work. But he should never touch Cassandra Cain again.

Pretty sure that's not a Photoshop, just a case of poor radio placement (Seriously, how would a belt buckle radio help?).

The buckle has the speaker, and when it opens the microphone comes out. Not much worse than mobile phones only a few years ago.

But the mic is still attached to the buckle, isn't it? Robin couldn't talk into it unless he was able to bend and--

Oooooh, so that's Bruce's excuse.

I'm relived it's not Morrison, but I'm not really happy with this after Batgirl, even if he did work on a cartoon. Why couldn't they have gotten Paul Dini to do this?

Amongst many other animated series, Beehcen wrote "Night of the Huntress" and "The Super Batman of Planet X" for Brave and the Bold, "Blast from the Past" on Static Shock, and "Haunted" and "Mad Mod" for Teen Titans, so I'd say his "working with animated characters" credentials are more than decent. I'll certainly give him a shot with this.

Indeed, the one which managed to make the murder of the Wayne's even MORE heartrending and angst-worthy.

Very true. This plus the fact it's not Cassandra Cain he's writing are why I'm still going to look in to this series.

I...I'm still willing to give it a chance. Beechen wrote an awesome episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold, after all.

Just keep him the hell away from Cassandra Cain.

Dustin Nguyen's also posted the art at his deviantART page. Way more adult looking than the animated version, but it's still pretty, pretty stuff.

Eh, for all intents and purposes, this is an advertisement. People may not give a shit about "Terry McGinniss" but have been proven to buy anything with Bruce Wayne in it.

I'll buy Beechan when they bring back Cass. The only reason she's radioactive right now to the point DC won't even use and has replaced her is because of Beechan and the fact that he couldn't even be bothered to do the homework on her when he decided to make a James Bond Dragon Lady super-villain or when he then decided she hated her father all along and wanted to kill him (his attempt to "fix" his own f!&$%g mistakes).

I hope Beechan does a good job on this. I was really hoping that Paul Dini, Bruce Timm or Alan Burnett would have some sort of role in this.

Maybe a better question would be what audience is this series aimed at? Cuz Beechen's writing comes off as pretty juvenile to me. *sighs* great. So much for looking forward to that series. 9_9
