Interesting! There seems to be a certain conservative mentality that good is good and evil is evil, and we have to fight evil, simple as that.

Naturally, that mentality fits neatly into the superhero genre (y'know, fantasy), so it's kind of a wonder what more conservatives don't read comics, or that more comic writers themselves don't lean that way. Maybe they're just not as open about it as people like WIllingham and Dixon.

I didn't know Byrne felt that way too, though. I vaguely recall that he wrote Magneto at one or two points. I wonder if he wrote him as pure fanatical evil as well? And wasn't his Dr. Doom among the best versions of the character? Those stories bear revisiting!

And oh man, I feel so dumb for not noticing that bit about the gun all these years! So dumb!
