LGBTQ Roll Call

With June being LGBTQ Pride, I couldn't think of a better time to do a Roll Call celebrating exceptional LGBTQ characters in comics.


While there have been a number of LGBTQ characters, most of them at best have been relegated to minor characters and at worst deplorable homophobic queer minstrel shows.
And don't get it conflated.

Visibility is not progress.

If it were then the Rawhide Kid and Northstar would be progressive trailblazing characters.

 So no, this isn't just my list of queer comic characters.

This is a salute to the elite characters who have provided me with a more than a few OH HELL YEAH! moments.
A list of characters and made me proud to be a comic book geek and an LGBTQ.

Ozymandias? I don't think he's ever been officially been said to be Gay or Bisexual.

Black Cat? Similar here, I think.

I guess if you want to include Ozymandias you could always include Triumph (supposedly going to be gay). Element Lad (gay for Brainy) and Shrinking Violet (lesbian I think). Ironic these three were supposed to be "gay/lesbian" but never actually stated as such.

Invisible Lad gay for Brainy. Element Lad gay for, well Sean Erin (nee Shvaughn Erin) :D

And that Brainy was arguably bi, since he had naughty pics of Invisible Lad.

Also, the animated version of Brainy was as gay as you could get while probably not owning genitalia.

Given that he was a technomorph, he could probably have as much genitalia as he darn well wanted, and seriously upgraded genitalia at that!

Shrinking Violet was shown to be in a long term relationship with Ayla (Lightning Lass) in the 5YL Legion, so whilst the term lesbian wasn't used, and the younger Vi was still shown to be interested in boys, she's got more provenance that Ozymandius.

Ah, I've only heard of the sexualities of the Legionnaries. And similarly have seen nothing of the 5YL Legion. Thanks for that.

Agreed about Ozy--if we're going to assume, I think a better candidate would be Rorschach himself--he's totally closeted.

As for Black Cat, aforementioned MC2 stuff aside, there was also Kevin Smith's Spider-Man/Black Cat series (which I really liked despite it's lateness and it's after-school-special-ness near the end), where she pines about not having a boyfriend or a girlfriend for a long time.
