'I sometimes worry at the gradual loss of density in mainstream comics. We're getting to the point now that a lot of spandex books take just five minutes to read cover to cover, and that's considered Right And Proper, and god forbid any material that warrants a reread. Oh, there's nothing wrong with that per se -- a lot of those comics are bloody great -- but I'm ironclad certain there's room in the stable for something stranger, denser and darker. Hence, "X-Men Legacy."' -- Si Spurrier

ok, so I saw this on Waiting for the Trade this morning, and I'm really annoyed by it.

I'm not trying to pass anyone's work, ESPECIALLY the work that the cartoonist puts into the strip.

One of the questions created by the prequels is how come Darth Vader never recognized C-3PO in the original trilogy if he was the one who created him? This comic answers that question.

One of the best tie-in books to Secret Wars was 1872, the Marvel Western book, feat Sheriff Steve Rogers protecting the town of Timely from the nasties of the Roxxon corporation and the Kingpin.

It was largely unconcerned with the Doom-damned rest of Battleworld and just took some classic Marvel characters and transplanted them to the old west.

There was the aforementioned Sheriff Rogers (better by miles that Rhojas from 1602), alcoholic blacksmith Tony Stark, actual widow Natasha Barnes, suffragettes (please , deliver me a Marvel Suffragettes book), Wonder Man the casual dick, Bullseye, Elektra and then teased at the end Hulk, Spider-man, Deadpool and a Priest Punisher.

It has a healthy attitude towards public property )

Red Wolf himself gives good advice on weapons safety )

So, even with the whole Nathan Edmondson is a serial creep and maybe you shouldn't buy his book, I wanted to support the rest of the team and give a new title a chance.

And then Red Wolf #1 ends with this page )

'I thought it was such a franchise-able thing. It allows me to create my own Batman, my own Superman, my own Doctor Who. There's so much you can do with this character. Everyone's familiar with it, but no one really knows him. It was all about just getting to the roots of this thing. Here's a massive icon everyone around the world knows -- how deep can we dig, how can we we make him human? We take this quite seriously, and do it like Frank Miller did "Batman: Year One," but with Santa Claus.' -- Grant Morrison
