"And Then Emily Was Gone is a horror series that begins with a former police detective called Greg Hellinger. Back in the day, he was famed for cracking some seemingly unsolvable missing persons cases, but five years ago he had what most believe to have been a mental breakdown, and ever since, he's been tormented by horrific apparitions of monsters that follow him around wherever he goes. He's pulled from his life of despair and squalor by a teenage girl called Fiona, who has tracked down Hellinger in hopes of him using his particular skill-set to track down her missing best friend, Emily.

The official story is that Emily ran away from home, but Fiona is convinced that a local child-snatching boogeyman by the name of Bonnie Shaw has taken her. Hellinger agrees to help Fiona, and their search takes them to the Orkney islands, and the remote community of Merksay, where strange and terrible things start to happen!" -- John Lees

A while back, a friend told me of this comic of this one Animaniacs cartoon where it is a faith adaption... except I couldn't find it in the actual comic series run... until I learned it was a Graphic Novel published by Scholastic at the time... but acquiring it was harder than expect because due to some error, it shared the same ISBN number as a math activity book on both Amazon and eBay... so there was NO guarantee you would get the right book at all.. until I found another flea-market site that gave me REAL proof to it, so low and behold

Now, in the real world bad people get let off in court all the time. This also happens in fiction, as in the scans to follow. But in fiction, sometimes Pat Mills gets to act out what he'd like to do to scumbag politicans even after they get acquitted.

So, the trial of Torquemada, from 2000ad's 'Nemesis the Warlock'.

Torquemada's crimes are many, too numerous to fully list, a dictator who wrought many atrocities on his own people. A quick way to get across the sort of person he is might be to begin with a session of past life regression therapy, to see who he had been in previous lives.

Bear in mind, while there may be one phrase there that seems pretty timely, this was published in 1987:

And the acquittal itself, and the aftermath. Some may long for life to imitate art in just this one instance...

"Dani picks probably a Miyazaki movie, honestly; Magik picks Forged In Fire; Warlock picks Adventure Time; Rahne picks Raised By Wolves (ha ha) or Star Trek: Next Generation; Karma picks Xena: Warrior Princess; Warpath picks Repair Shop on Netflix, or Stargate: Atlantis (he seems the type)." - Vita Ayala
