The Origin of Giganta

The lovely spirit of the cover doesn't quite match the contents, with stories alternating between nice and nihilistic, but at least 2/3 of those characters do appear inside.

One of those characters is Giganta, and while the most obvious question that cover makes a reader think may be "why does Grodd wear more clothes when he goes to the beach?", the obvious second question is 'what's the deal with that giant woman?"

The Giganta story inside has our size-changing protagonist paying a visit to her old hometown during the high school summer carnival:
