I never got to do a Court of Owls. I never got to do something to Batman that sort of changed everything. So this is what I’m going to do. -- Tom King

In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like.

Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.

The intent of these posts is to chat and have some fun and, sure, vent a little as required. Reasoned debate is fine, as always, but if you have to ask if something is going over the line, think carefully before posting please.

Normal board rules about conduct and behaviour still apply, of course.

It's been suggested that, if discussing spoilers for recent media events, it might be advisable to consider using the rot13 method to prevent other members seeing spoilers in passing.

The world situation is the world situation. If you're following the news, you know it as much as I do, if you're not, then there are better sources than me.

The World Cup continues.

As does the Twitpocalypse

China is experiencing extraordinary levels of civil unrest as people protest the continuation of their "zero tolerance" Covid lockdowns.

Irene Cara, best known for singing "Fame" and "Flashdance... What a Feeling" passed away at 63.

Honestly, good news was hard to find examples of, so please feel free to post such good news as you have.

Pixar's new movie Elemental has a teaser

And Avatar: The Way of Water does too.

"Wednesday" arrived on Netflix, the Tim Burton directed spin off from The Addams Family, by way of the prducers of Smallville. It benefits from a very strong central performance from Jenna Ortega (especially bearing in mind that in this series Wednesday is in her teens, so making her surly hostility towards the world stand out takes more effort than it does when Wednesday is supposed to be ten) and a good supporting cast (Luis Guzmán as Gomez, Gwedoline Christie as the Headmistress of the School). It does seem a little odd that Wednesday would go to a school populated exclusively by kids with some form of magical powers, given that no one knew she had developed powers of her own at the time). It also manages to dial down Burton's usual excesses (There's a reason his best movies are those that Henry Selick directed).

Also enjoying "Mr Midnight: Beware the Monsters" a series from Singapore based on a series of kids books there, and using local mythology.

Question of the week: Your favourite cryptid, monster myth or legend? Feel free to use ones from around the world we might not be familiar with.

"My measure of success with Boom-Boom is making people fall in love with her. Now, Carlos [Gomez] is the artist of X-TERMINATORS. He got there by, like, page 13. I think that's when it became really apparent that Carlos had a crush on Boom-Boom."
