Originally just a death post, but I ended up adding the events that led up to her death. So, yeah, this post is a bit on the long side.

I think it was around this time that I stopped caring about Runaways.

Not Gert's death, but about the time as the first scans of this entry. The first 18 issues felt so good and then the second volume hit and...Ugh. Let down, at least for me.

Gert's death wasn't that big of a deal to me because of it. (Then again. Death in fiction stopped having any real effect on me since Tara on Buffy.)

Definitely worth getting, up until Whedon's run. That was when the wheels fell off, for me.

I read the second volume first, though, which pretty much made Vic my favourite character, therefore, I wasn't that impressed with the first volume.

Whedon's run was polarizing to many - some liked it, some didn't.

If you're new to the series I would recommend checking it out anyway - I liked it, it had it's moments, and was worlds better then what came after.

It's a damn good series overall, but the Whedon run is polarizing.

I like it, others don't. Afterwards, it goes from "Great" to "Average" at best. I'd jump ship after Whedon overall.

Mostly agreed, although the one issue done by Yost and the Secret Invasion mini also by Yost were pretty good.

I'm more of a DC fangirl, but I think that is due to the legacy. I wish DC would adopt the Marvel way of realistic personalities and depicting there younger characters in this manner. It seems like there are some realistic relationship themes going on here unlike the insulting romance and bitchy acting girl character of the week melodrama that goes on in Teen Titans.

Runaways comes in the super cheap Digests. And the super awesome OHCs.

That was a rather pointless death.

And yet, it's almost a decade later and we're still shocked and stunned by it.

That means it worked as a true tragic death.

If Deaths in comics were more like this or "Go Out in True Blazes' of Glory" style deaths instead of what we normally get--which is what I call Numb Deaths: Deaths that leave the observer numb to them as they only display the callousness of the world setting--we'd be happier customers.

I'd much rather have had Chase die than Gert. At least she was interesting.

This was pretty sad, and had lovely art to boot (I'm tempted to read this solely for Karolina's rainbow appearance).And yet, incredibly distracting how she's bleeding from her mouth when she got stabbed in the guts. That happens when you have lung or throat damage. I know it's for dramatic effect but still.

Also, I love Karolina's design.
