Damian did two things this week that would have gotten him fired by Bruce. Though I've no doubt Bruce, too, will stick to the special rules for Damian code when he returns.
Damian has done a lot of things in his Robin career so far that would have gotten him fired.
This whole "I've proven myself, haven't I?" in Red Robin seems a little bit like crocodile tears when Damian hasn't really proven himself, IMO. He still doesn't follow orders. When the other Robins disobeyed, they were either fired or put on hiatus.
Yup! It's believable that he'd see himself as doing everything he's been asked etc. but if you look at the behavior Dick, Tim and Jason were expected to live up to every day, Damian's failed most of the time.
Yeah, but then you'd think that would make them (Dick, Bruce, Alfred) more protective of him in a way. Tthe reason why the other Robins were fired/put on hiatus was to protect them essentially. (Granted, maybe he shouldn't have recruited children in the first place, but that's a debate for another day....)
The problem is STOPPING Damian then; didn't that get dealt with when he first showed up? Better to have at least some measure of control and monitoring than to risk his freelancing like he did with the Ghost. He was trained by the League of Assassins. He's not going to stay home with milk, cookies and Aunt Harriet.
If you read the story, you see Dick's reaction when he finds out Damian was brought to see the Joker, and rushes over to stop it. Not because he fears for Damian. It does beg the question though of why he only then thinks about Damian not being there though, but that gets obviated very quickly on the way over anyway.
Oh yes, I read the story. I actually did some scans yesterday, but then I got too tired and was like eeep! that would be waaay too many posts in a row!
Anyways, yeah, that's the problem with Damian. And Dick has said he wants to save Damian, in BnR 1. "If we don't save/help him, who will?" And Dick has a much more gentler approach than Bruce ever did. (Except that Damian actually respected Bruce, whereas Dick... well, he's very slooowly respecting him).
I really think Damian needs a family connection. But is Robin the best job for our little Cousin Oliver?
Well, I mean, Dick, Jason and Tim aren't girls, but I'm cool with calling them Marcia, Jan and Cindy. As much as I love all the Robins, I've got nooo problem making fun of them at the same time. ;-D
