One more Scott Pilgrim post before I depart for now: A battle between Scott's current girlfriend, Ramona, and his ex, Knives Chau, from Volume 2. The dark-haired girl with Ramona is Scott's sister Stacey. Yada yada 150+ pages yada yada doesn't violate one-third rule.

SPECIAL BONUS FOR MANGA LOVERS: On the last page of volume 4 (American-style front-to-back order) is this little gem:

I didn't read the word "big" and just saw "Your above cut image is a lil too gangsta."

I used to have that conversation back when Trigun was popular.

"You name your kid MILLIONS KNIVES, and then you're surprised when he turns out bad? You deserve what you get."

Man, and now I'm just wishing there were cosplayers at TCAF (hosted at the Reference Library) because seeing a Ramona and Knives pair would be awesome.

I've read this scene a couple of times before and it just now dawned on me that Ramona's response wasn't just a random ill fitting trial and error from the list one. It actually worked in the context I was just too distracted by it to notice.

She should have gotten a t-shirt.

Ramona's response? Do you mean, "Did Gideon send you?"

I love Ramona's outfit, especially her skirt. Also, I love how Scott is pointlessly tying up the phone lines. And I love how Knives' "YOU WILL NEVER DEFEAT ME!!! NEVARRR!!!" dialogue is met with Ramona's nonplussed-but-increasingly-annoyed dialogue. And I love Stacy's reaction face. And I love Wallace's endpage.

:D

I LOVE EVERYTHINGGG

The idea is that it applies video game tropes as the basis for their reality.

The above would doubtless be a Quick-Time Event.

This is pretty much the exact scene that officially hooked me on the series.

So many badass moments.

/CHAU DOWN!/

Come to think of it, that may be one of my favorite comic book fight scenes out there. At least on the list!

I love that Ramona just walks straight up the wall as though that's a thing that people should be able to do.

/HOW APPROPRIATE. YOU FIGHT LIKE A COW/

AaaaaoooOOOOOWWW!!

Scott Pilgrim is no one to get into a fight over

Such a waste of space. I'm tempted to picket my comic store on Monday (the creator will be there signing his book pandering to the manchild, sexism and all), but I'm waiting on my store to give me permission. ¬_¬

The point is, I can't be on someone's premises (a business), because where I am, I might be courting some sort of arrest (not in the US). There are things worth risking a write up for, Pilgrim isn't one of 'em.

Actually, you couldn't picket my local all-American store on its premises w/o risking arrest, either. On the sidewalk, yes-- so long as you weren't obstructing customers. However... :/

But based on what I've seen of this series, I'm pretty much with you. ( Bearing in mind that I'm contrarian to the marrow of my bones. I vote US Green and I want to beat my head against a wall whenever I'm trapped in a roomful of Whedon-heads. :p)

Ah, you cannae stand Whedon too?

Oh, come on in, and have tea and cake. Or will beer do it for you? I hang with people who think that Whedon is a god among men, and I'm like, "Erm..."

But based on what I've seen of this series, I'm pretty much with you.

Man, seriously. There's so much fail in the series. I read the first five (my friends insisted that it got better towards the end, and that I was being 'too serious' and 'reading too much' into the series itself). It's a mess. I actually agreed with one of the characters in the series when she says to Scott Pilgrim is that if life had his face, she'd punch it. He's such a smug git.

BEER!

[clears throat] Sorry. Got carried away there for a sec.

...hang with people who think that Whedon is a god among men, and I'm like, "Erm..."

It got so bad around here for a while that I considered putting up a sign directing party guests to go stand on the back porch if they insisted on worship sessions that lasted more than ten minutes.

...He's such a smug git...

Yep. At twenty-five or so, I would've been unpleasantly reminded of how many dudes like this I knew in my circle of single friends. In my mid-forties, I suppose I'd imagine my clueless non-existent daughter throwing herself at some asshole like that, because she was too young to know any better. Either way, yeah. Some kind of punch would be in order. :p

And that's the first time I ever saw a callback to "How appropriate. You fight like a cow." that actually used it as a proper pun, even in Monkey Island. Props to O'Malley.
