Yeah, it was a pretty lousy cut; basically J'onn started reading megs mind, then we immediately cut to the memory of the Green martian kicking Megs ass.
You know, I almost wish this new Green Martian turned out to be J'onn's crazy ex girlfriend from high school, cause that would make for the craziest Springer ever.
Also: Nice to see J'onn is cool about Megan being a White Martian.
I don't think she like-likes J'onn (though it's possible there's some crush going on there. Still, she's not exactly shy about giving a mind link and doesn't act crush-y), but I'm not sure if that's what Greenie thinks.
Greenie might think that, or simply may be murderously offended by a disgusting white martian getting this close to J'onn even in the non-romantic companion sense!
Oh soooo much material. Crazy parentage, who's a clone, who made a deal with the devil, crazy stalkers, Cyclops' relationships, people not being dead, Steve and Tony, etc.
They were whites in disguise as greens, if I recall correctly.
There's too much cutting on this series. The bursts in last issue were good, but expecting people to recall all the massive exposition in the last issue and apply it directly to this issue feels like bad story telling to me, or at least really wrecks the smooth flow.
I do enjoy the new chatty white entity though. Totally confused on it, but the chatty part amuses me.
I can't blame Tomasi for not reading that awful AJ Lieberman mini, so no harm no foul.
What I can blame him for is not doing his research, because J'onn has a ridiculous history of meeting Green Martians in a number of different series'. Hell, his own brother is still alive. The story presented here is well written enough, but this is the kind of head smacking continuity that's pretty hard to ignore.
Seems like any comic book writer these days should just scrap the phrase "the last of" from their list of words to use.
Superman is my favorite example. Goes from being the last survivor, to the last of a few, then there are tens of thousands, and now back to a few. Same with his planet - there's so much kryptonite on Earth right now, it likely outnumbers the minerals deposited by every other meteor that has hit in the past hundred years. Farmers probably grumble about finding green glowing rocks in their corn fields!
No, J'onn killed his brother by teleporting him into the heart of the sun. This happened in the Ostrander Martian Manhunter ongoing, which was edited by... Peter Tomasi.
There were two kinds of Martians, the Whites and the Greens. J'onn is one of the Greens, and wanted to be pacifists. M'gann is a White, and her people were war-hungry and blood-simple. If I remember right, part of the reason why Mars is barren is because of the war between the Greens and the Whites.
I think the thing is that they both hate each other - it's just that the Greens are generally more pacifistic and passive-aggressive in their hatred, whereas the Whites are active warmongers.
I'm hoping that the whole 'extra vertical fang-laden mouth in the top of the head' thing is just something along the lines of a battle-form that Green Martians take - I'd rather not have yet ANOTHER retcon as to what J'onn really looks like, thank you very much. My advice, J'onn? She's a nasty piece of work - you should steer clear of her.
