My entry for today comes from Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog comics.

Here's his entry in the Mobius Encyclopedia
Basically, Monkey Khan (real name Ken Khan) was a monkey from the Asian region of Mobius who Robotnik-Prime (the original) captured and turned into a cyborg, in his old experiments to try and create cybernetic life-forms before acquiring the means to roboticize people. He turned out to be too powerful to control, and instead of destroying him, Robotnik just locked him up in stasis, until Sonic and Sally freed him years later.
When he was first introduced back in StH #55, Monkey Khan could only be described as your classic Marty Stu: male action hero suddenly popping out of nowhere with a backstory and powers (supposedly) more interesting then the main character's own, shows off by destroying foes the hero was having trouble with, and even hits on the main character's romantic interest.
Monkey Khan then goes off back to his homeland, and after a few hit and miss stories where they give him some enemies, and a home to protect of his own (which he loses to Eggman's attacks later), he finally makes a definitive return in the Iron Dominion storyline, in which Ian Flynn has the Iron Queen (a previously established enemy of Monkey Khan's) take over the Eggman Empire, which brought him back to help the Freedom Fighters deal with her, before going back with Sonic, Sally and Tails to the "Dragon Kingdom" region of Mobius to sap her resources, establishing him as the "Hero of the Free People". He also got a more interesting personality, and Flynn actually made his "maybe, maybe not" potential relationship with Sally an intriguing possibility, which a Sonic/Sally fan like myself would normally reject on general principles.
So, kudos to Ian Flynn and the folks at Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog to make a character I hated into someone I'd love to see again.
