Rant Post: What Event/Retcon/Whatever Pissed You Off the Most?

This is an extension of the Identity Crisis conversation that is sort of derailing the discussion of costume choices and Robin asses in a post below this.

Essentially, this is a general hate thread. It can be an event, character, moment, retcon, or other annoyance that makes you annoyed or want to smack a passerby.

Let's get it started (on a saturday night, everybody's waitin for me to arrive-)



"Hi I'm Superboy Prime. I could have been an interesting character. I could have represented the eventual death and decay of a more innocent time and become a very powerful and interesting villain. But motherfucker I do not roll that way. I like to spend my days being a whiny prick who spouts off dialogue that you'd find in a Naruto/Harry Potter fanfic. I like long walks on the beach, being a dickbag, and annoying every single reader by being ultra powerful AND astonishingly badly written. Oh, and I'm also in your dimension! I live in my basement trolling comics forums. Hell yeah bitches, I'm so. fucking. Bad. Ass."




Let's just get it out of the way. One More Day and Brand New Day were bad ideas. Very bad ideas. They have turned out waves of people who hate Spider-Man and everything associated with him. They were badly written, badly thought out and are just generally the worst thing to happen to Spider-Man since Joe Quesada realized he hated that dang MJ lady.


Also Identity Crisis isn't that bad.

If Blackest Night were not the culmination (plus wasn't really wrapped up yet, Brightest Day is really a direct continuation, so I can't render a final verdict) of some awesome fucking GL stories, I would hate it with the fire of a million suns.

Tempest, Boomer, Damage, Holly!Hawk, Gehenna, most of them dead for the worst fucking reasons:

Garth=Dead cuz there's new fucking aqualad. Even worse is that Garth HAD JUST RETURNED from being MIA SINCE GODDAMN INFINITE CRISIS. AND NOBODY CELEBRATED THE POOR GUY'S RETURN.

Boomer-Dead Cuz Johns wanted his Dad back as the main Capt. Boomerang.

Damage-No clue why they wanted to kill him. But sucks because he'd just been restored to the forefront of the DCU and IMO find a great niche within the JSA (just the emoness could've been less).

Holly!Hawk-Cuz Hank's back and God knows retirement/depowerization is just out of the fucking question.

Gehenna-DEATH CUZ WE NEEDZ ANGST

If we don't see any more resurrections at the end of Brightest Day I'm going to call both Blackest Night and Brightest Day failures. As it is in Blackest Night the characters brought back with the highest profiles (J'onn, Aquaman, the Hawks, possibly Jade) were killed to begin with either in BN itself or with the expectation they would be resurrected anyway. Likewise they Johns only killed Garth for Blackest Night seemingly in retrospect to make room for Geoff Johns' new Aqualad but they also killed his entire family (Dolphin and Cerdian) off-panel just so they could use them in Blackest Night as well. And of course we've seen no reaction from Aquaman yet about any of that and we're already several weeks into Brightest Day.
