Are they even TRYING to be subtle anymore in setting up Carlie Cooper (who, lest you forget, is named after Joe Quesada's daughter) as the new love interest for Peter? I mean, what's next? The ghost of Uncle Ben coming up from the grave and telling Peter that she's "the one" for him?
Anyways, at the end Spidey encounters the Chameleon:

A lot of people strongly dislike Carlie because:
a)she has replaced a beloved character in a beloved OTP. Adding insult to injury, the OTP wasn't broken up in a sensible and respectful way, but with a deal with the Devil.
b)she is being written as ludicrously perfect. I know the term "Mary Sue" has been overused to the point that many people say "Mary Sue" to mean "Female Character I Don't Like," but in the case of Carlie Cooper, I really think the term is appropriate.
So, when a character who is strongly disliked is shamelessly pushed down our throat as this perfect wonderful beacon whom is constantly praised by writers in interviews and characters in the story as the most awesome girlfriend ever and The One and so much better than anybody else and isn't Peter so fantastically lucky to be with her, the general reaction is: FUCK NO.
If you like this, more power to you. But it's very easy to see why people are justifiably complaining.
