Greetings True Believers!

The first issue of X-Men: To Serve and Protect came out and it rocks.

Anole and Rockslide fight crime. It is awesome.

And if that wasn't enough, Batroc, Ze Leaper!

Enjoy!

Rockslide kicks Anole out of his bed and suggests they fight crime.

Vic is sold, they cobble together costumes and sneak off X-island. The other X-Men see but don't care.

They save a lady from some weird gangbangers.

May I point out that Santo is wearing a fake mustache UNDER his Jason-mask? Yes, he's that awesome.

Batroc and Fantomex are both trying to steal the same diamond. Time for French shenanigans!

Fantomex isn't taking Batroc seriously. Le'mistake.

Fight!

They fight more and Batroc bounces off a wall and Fantomex goes through a window.

And this panel because it's so.....Batroc!

Finally, we see members of the New X-Men in worthwhile, positive roles, and not trotted out to be injured (Hellion), to create false and unbelievable conflict (Surge) or filling the blank space in a splash page (everyone else). What is this tingly feeling I'm getting in my chest? Am I actually...feeling happy?

:) In all honesty, though, this was a nice little story. If nothing else, I'll keep buying the rest of the mini just to see how it turns out.

I'd be happier if Hellion was given something to do that didn't involve him bitterly counting his grievous injuries and generally falling apart with the trauma and PTSD of it all.

But, failing that, Rockslide dragging Anole into his idiotic world is more than satisfactory.

It'd be nice to see Mercury and Dust given something worthwhile to do, as well.

Every time I see the phrase "Zuts, alors" I start singing songs from "The Little Mermaid." But this is pure awesome. I love Santo and Anole's dynamic.

Zuts, alors! i have meeezed one!

Sacre bleu
What is theez?
How on earth could I meez
Such a sweet little succulent crab?
Quel dommage
What a loss
Here we go in thee sauce
Now some flour, I think
Just a dab
Now I stuff you with bread
It don't hurt 'cause you're dead
And you're certainly lucky you are
'Cause it's gonna be hot
In my big silver pot
Toodle loo mon poisson
Au revoir!

You know, if there's one thing I've learnt from being in the Army, it's never ignore a pooh-pooh. I knew a Major, who got pooh-poohed, made the mistake of ignoring the pooh-pooh. He pooh-poohed it! Fatal error! 'Cos it turned out all along that the soldier who pooh-poohed him had been pooh-poohing a lot of other officers who pooh-poohed their pooh-poohs. In the end, we had to disband the regiment. Morale totally destroyed... by pooh-pooh!

....

Sorry, couldn't help it.

ooh nice, Mister Negative's demons (in between this and One Month 2 Live, he's becoming a nicely used facet of continuity.)

so they'll get to punch Hammerhead in an issue or two, then.

these guys need to actually meet the young avengers like, yesterday. Santo and Tommy can bond over how dorky their respective teammates are. I think Tommy is hip enough to appreciate the fake mustache, too.

Every time I get a reminder of how the X-kids have been treated by the actual X-Men/New Mutants, I find myself hoping that 90% of the senior teams die the next time Utopia comes under siege. (At present rate, that should be a week from tomorrow.)

I just want the kids to leave the island while they still can.

They can get jobs or go to school in San Francisco.

Or they could be pirates!

Man, I haven't read an X-men book in literally, years. Granted, I read the old issues my DAD had, so I guess you could say I never really got 'into' it, but I do get those big collections for major events (though, HIGHLY regretted getting any Age of Apocalypse. Ever. Except for Blink, who's soooo awesome in it and lives!).

But, just want to say, man I don't get the X-men vibe from these AT ALL. Or at least, the 'recent' X-men I've picked up. All that emo-ness cos of House of M and what not. Or that 'grity realism' thing from Ultimates. A lot less gloomy, actually goofy! MOUSTACHES! Feels like ages since I've had a comic that was lightened up for once! From Marvel!

But can someone explain the two guys in the 2nd comic to me? I don't understand, are they mutants? And did one of them come from DC?

Also, I'd like to extend my congratulations to whoever illustrated this scene: this is the fugliest Anole has looked in any X-title to date, and you were up against some stiff competition.

I don't know, the Caio Reis' Anole in Invaders Now #1 was pretty awful.

And there were times he was pretty fug in Young X-men and there's his Manifest Destiny story.

Ugh poor kid.

I wish there were more funny X-Men books. This one looks awesome, but I can't ignore the voice in the back of my mind saying "something horrible is going to happen to them sooner or later" :(

Anyway, about the second comic, if both Fantomex and Batroc are French, and there are no non-French speakers around, why are they speaking English?
