the Scans/NoScans Daily Calendar
Feb. 4th, 2011 07:12 pmThis was meant to be part of our end of year ~*extravaganza*~, but the holidays turned out to be busier than expected and the project fell by the wayside. But because we love it (and all of you, natch), we are reviving it in hopes of having something ready this month (which is, btw Black History Month, heyyyy).
So we thought to ourselves, Scans Mods, you know what would be great? A calendar of geekmembrance. A calendar to track all the geek holidays, and the important celebrations of our diverse membership. And then we thought to ourselves, wouldn't that be a fun project for the community as a whole?
Here's how it's going to work:
You nominate days of remembrance and celebration that would or should be significant for a large number of your fellow members. We compile the data and put together a graphic calendar for the community to reference when considering figuring out what to post.
To get things started, we've come up with a few nominations of our own.
Black History Month ~ February!
Free Comic Book Day ~ First Saturday in May!
International Read Comics in Public Day (Jack Kirby's birthday) ~ August 28th!
LGBTQ History Month ~October!
Wonder Woman Day ~ The last Sunday in October! (but never halloween!)
Halloween ~ October 31st!
International Day to End Violence Against Women ~ Nov. 25 (and Dec. 6 in Canada)
National Transgender Day of Remembrance ~ Late November, but varies!
Lunisolar New Year ~ varies, usually second new moon after the winter solstice
New Years Day ~ Jan. 1!
* Note: We will not be including national holidays.

Date: 2011-02-05 05:00 am (UTC)I understand and agree with no national holidays, but I wonder, are there any FICTIONAL national holidays out there we could celebrate? Is there a Themyscira Day, an Atlantis Sinking Anniversary, a Wakandan Pride Day, a Genoshan Independence Festival?
Perhaps we could pick a day on the calendar and declare it to be Pretend Place Patriotism Day?
