It has some problems, but so far the series seems that it's wants to develop the characters out of their problems and you know become better heroes, so I don't mind, the only problems I have is Superman and Madame Xanadu just because they seem rather...not like them.
I dunno, Clark does have a history a dumping relatives (Superboy and Supergirl) for others to care for, it's just usually at least with his own parents.
Yas know, in the original series, the Young Justice kids were freaking douche bags to one another. I was constantly amazed how they went issue after issue not strangling one another.
But then, when PAD was writing, they were at least funny assholes. The TV series? Not so much.
The analogy I have for Clark is the equivalent of a teenage son showing up out of no where and expecting to be part of his life, with no warning first that they existed.
This kind of seems to be the angle they're going for in the cartoon as well, with Clark being uncomfortable around Conner because he was given no say in his creation AND he suddenly wants to (in Superman's mind) take a place in Superman's life that he might not be prepared for mentally.
A non-superheroic example could be, for example if Clark didn't have powers but his career at the Planet carried on despite being a human being. He might have slept with Lana Lang once back in high school prior to moving to Metropolis, and 16 years later a son that Clark had no idea existed shows up, wanting recognition etc. That would be a lot to process.
I don't think that Clark in the comics was immediately welcoming of Conner though anyway, was he?
Also, I was also kind of disappointed they didn't have the same version as Madame X as in the comics, but they at least left a window open for her to become a more familiar version of the character by implying she had actualy magical potential, despite her stage magical trickery.
Hm, their Robin is a combination of features from each of the current ones (acrobatics from Dick, hackery from Tim, smugness from Damian etc.), while Conner is more a combination of himself in his angst period following him discovering he was related to Lex Luthor, and Damian in his quieter, more reflective moments.
Artemis, in comparision, seems to be a mixture of Rose Wilson and Cassandra Cain, but to what extent we'll have to see.
Still you could see in the comic why they were friends and hung around each other better, they felt a lot more like friends then most superhero teams and one I felt I wouldn't mind hanging out with for while watching Wendy the Werewolf Slayer.
Honestly, I wouldn't say that Superboy's like some sudden teenage son that shows up outta nowhere. That implies action on the part of Clark, and responsibility.
Rather, Superboy was created against Clark's will, or knowledge and suddenly wants to be part of Clark's life. It's not rape, but it's closer to that than say, Superboy being an illegitmate child from a one night stand.
I haven't watched any of the episodes, and was basing the Damian comparison over the "Stop being Wolverine" joke, wanting to replace Superman, and Superman being uneasy that he didn't have a say in Conner creation.
Yeah, I feel like people complaining about Superman being weirded out are being unfair.
Someone cloned him without his knowledge and that clone showed up as a 15 year old with an attitude that wants him to be his daddy now.
That's, uh, freaky. I would be freaked. Superman not leaving a Clark Kent sized hole in the wall everytime he shows up is really testament to his patience.
"Still you could see in the comic why they were friends and hung around each other better"
I sure couldn't. Superboy was replaced by Match and no one noticed, half the team turned on Robin in the middle of a mission on the fear he might be like Batman, they tried to kick out Ray and Snapper after the two refitted their headquarters, they never treated Secret with the emotional care she needed, up to and including the time she begged them for help when her father was going to be *executed*, and that's just off the top of my head.
And that's not even including the casual cruel nature of the kids, how Superboy pushed Cassie after she had the team stand down against Darkseid (she then slugged him), Cassie's remark to Slobo about tripping over them (after he confessed to slowly dying, starting by going blind) to how the team treated Secret after learning about her powers.
It's a credit to Peter David's skill that none of this was readily apparent, and amazingly funny, but if you look back on the series without the humor...ouch.
I've watched the Batman Animated Series all throughout it's TV run, I've watched the Superman series, Justice League Unlimited and a lot of direct to video movies. And right now, I find that the new My Little Pony series to be an absolute blast compared to Young Justice. It's fun, energetic, the characters are down right lovable and it's creatively funny! Pinkie's inability to sing because of her big tongue? Hilarious! Miss Martian not being able to cook cookies? FAIL.
Young Justice is just boring predictable tripe. Everything I predicted about this series is proving to be right. The female characters aren't worth crap, the boys are all unlikable, and I cannot stand all the bull#!&$ that the writers want boys and girls to like the series.
Oh, and "The Legend of Korra" is an action series that has a female character as the show's lead. Not four guys who only bring in the female character at the end only to ogle at her and comment on how badly she bakes cookies. Plus, I highly doubt that Korra will be skipped when they make happy meal toys of her show, unlike Miss Martian, Artemis and every other female character.
one I felt I wouldn't mind hanging out with for while
Right there. I'd hang out with the Ponies. I'd hang out with Generator Rex and Bobo Haha. I'd hang out with Dan and Chris as they took revenge on someone. Having seen the commercials for YJ, I don't want to hang out with them at all.
I didn't find it that cruel and it still had some heart warming moments, hell their was the friendship between Slobo and Empress, the camp out issue, and hell Match is a clone of Superboy and is very devious and people did notice something was off with Superboy but it was too late. and Hell I can understand the whole Robin bit because well look what actually happened to the JLA in rock of ages you can argue it is understandable for Batman to have death traps...but it removed superman's skin, gave Flash a seizure, and lit the Jonn's skin on fire not exactly pleasant and very disturbing.
They had good moments I agree, but the negative, like how Cassie brushed off Robin's explanation for leaving (after what they pulled *during* the mission, he was being kind), or leaving Secret out in the cold after she begged them for help to save her father from being executed (and they should have been smart enough to know it wasn'y kosher), is just so overwhelming, IMO.
Huh... was never aware of people disliking YJ THAT much... I mean I can see the issues, but it's still a fairly OK-show. (if nothing superlative like Avatar or SSM)
I did not find it that overwhelming but I can see where you come from. I still say they were pretty good friends, and the fact is yeah they acted a bit dickish but for the most part, I find that friends make more jokes then bring up drama and Secret did not make a good case for herself. Still they were there for each other it's just that IMO you don't just say how good friends you are, you have fun with your friends and for the most part they were having fun adventures.
I've especially come to like "Trophy!" especially because they've started showing the growing trophy collection. It gives a nice sense of continuity between episodes.
Sooooooo... instead of being mentored by Aang's son; Korra is being mentored by Azula, and they've conceived a machiavelic plan to turn every other cartoons against one another so Korra will triumph; is that it?
