Oh no, don't you remember that awe inspiring Batman: Gotham Knights arc "Pushback"? That gem or a story which confirmed that the past outlined in "TKJ" was actually true, apart from the fact that Joker's wife didn't die in an accident, but was murdered by a corrupt cop, who had been observed in the act by the Riddler and... sorry, I can't keep going, it just depresses me.

I'm happy to say, I've never read that one.

On the other hand, I did read the Batman Confidential arc that gave an origin for him.
