David Finch and Tony Daniel aside, I really like the direction that the Batman books have taken in the last few months. I especially like the Brave and the Bold nature of Batman Inc and Batgirl.

Well, the helmet is straight from the original Joker version. It's kind of the iconic Red Hood look.

Oh man, that Batgirl solicit sounds like GOLD. I only recently started this series but it seriously can't do any wrong in my eyes at the moment.

I love Batgirl too - My only issue with it is that it can't seem to keep a consistent artist to save it's life. DC made a big noise about Dustin Nguyen coming on, and admittedly, he is amazing - The Klarion issue we got last month was, to quote M Bison, 'dee-lishious', but Nguyen's being dicked around so much by Paul Dini's erratic House of Hush schedule that he's on and off.

Extreeeeeeemely glad that BOP has finally gotten a consistent artist - That has pretty much been a clusterfuck on DC's behalf since the book got launched, and it's not even like Benes was ill or anything - He did that Steel special a while back - But the story doesn't grab me at all. Another story with the Birds up against someone who 'holds all the cards'? That sounds just like the White Canary and the plot against Dinah, and/or Calculator's war on Oracle.

Name a BOP story by Gail Simone that didn't follow that pattern. I'm not going to dig out the link, but I recall from a few years back she stated her definition of "bad ass" on YABS and it was specifically in relation to someone who got back up after being knocked down. She has absolutely no concept of post-modernism, where you go into a story expecting the hero to win and are there just to enjoy the how of it all, which is why I can almost certainly say the next arc will be about how someone else "holds all the cards" and the Birds have to work their way up to beating them.

As someone who does understand post-modernism (at least enough to be a hipster snob), enjoyed Oracle back in the day when she was a force to be feared, and accepts as a given that Black Canary ranks up there with Nightwing and Katana in unpowered fighting skills...it's quite frustrating.

I assumed he was like twenty-one. He's a touch older than Steph, I think. But to answer your question, it's because that's how he looked in the earlier B&R arc, and that's what they want us to see as "the way things are" now.

But that's a fine line. And the "tallyho" in the solicit does give me a sense of foreboding.
