This is rather interesting, actually. Beyond the obvious intrigue of there being someone that even Darkseid is afraid of, Yuga Khan makes for an interesting villain, because he possesses qualities that, in someone else, might be deemed positive ones. He describes himself as a 'dreamer', a term that is almost always used as a POSITIVE description - dreamers are almost always the heroes, or at least sympathetic. Here, the quester for truth is so obsessed with said truth that he'll commit any number of atrocities to get it. Say what you will about Darkseid, but at least he looks and acts like what he is - Yuga Khan looks and acts like a monster, but he has the motivations of a poet or a scholar - which, paradoxically, may make him even MORE dangerous.

Considering Izaya's source-mysticism, I got a science vs spirituality vibe from some of this. With Yuga Khan as the scientist who's ~gone too far.

He reminded me a lot of Krona - at least when written by Busiek. (Dunno about the latest Johns version.)

I suppose you could see it like that, yes - although I must say, I can't see anything SPECIFICALLY scientific about Yuga Khan.

The new gods backstory is kind of... inconsistent. In John Byrne's run he apparently looked like a normal person and the process he underwent to get the omega beams turned him that way...

unfortunately no ever pays attention to the new gods family so whether or not that (or this run even) is still canon I have no idea. :(
