Some more of the Legion Academy's newest class of students, from last month's Adventure Comics...

The objective is to get the ball away from Night Girl without using their powers on her.

Huh.

Night Lass would make for a great trainer- you can practice with her to train against super strong/tough types, but unlike real combat you control the conditions so there's no worry of her powers cutting out.

If those Legion members are adult, why go by the various "girls and boys"?

Never got that, hold over from the SA?

I'm still waiting for a member who belongs to a race which has a third (or even fourth) gender and wants to use an equivalent term.

Quislet counts as a member belonging to an asexual species, who was always known as "it" because it was literally correct, and also dodged the whole suffix thing.

Who knows how long beings will live in the 31st century? Or how long they'll hold onto 'girl' 'boy' terms? Women have been referred to as 'girls' by themselves and others for ages. That males might pick up this usage isn't that farfetched.

Glorith? As a Legion trainee?

That... that can't end well.

One would think but she's very much an innocent mystic youth here apparently being trained by White/Black Witch.

Yeah, but I wouldn't be surprised if she turns into a menace.

Wait. Is this the actual Glorith, or another character? The original Glorith accidentally de-evolved herself at the end of her first (and only) clash with the 60's Legion, and didn't recover from that until Five Years Later happened. No clue why she'd go to study on Naltor either. Unless she restored herself as an amnesiac young girl.

So, unless they say something else, I assume this is just a different character using the name.

So...uh...she starts teaching them discipline after this or something?

Well, this is clearly (sorta) a punishment for them all, having them wake up super early and being drilled by the group. I assume they'll be lectured soon after.

I assumed it's harsh conditions training- seeing how they can manage when they aren't at their best.

So basically she's doing what would be considered normal (or even very light) for people being trained for combat. Harsh.

Sorta, until now the academy was seemingly more like a regular school with dorms. Now it's like an army barracks. So a bit of a difference but not too much I suppose.

That was the intent, but the lesson didn't go the way the trainers had planned.

I've said this before, but I really like Dragonwing's outfit. It's a very interesting look.

Phil Jimenez has said he wanted to get a sort of "Zhora from Blade Runner" vibe, with a kind of PVC overcoat, except in this case, with an animated graphic as part of the design.

It's animated? I just thought it was a pattern.

It's hard to convey in still images, but the pattern is never the same between panels.

Ah, I see. Something like Rorschach's mask, then.

A bit, but it's even more high tech one feels. You'll notice that the coat always shows a "consistent" view to the viewer, so there will be a flow of the dragon pattern overlaying whatever parts of the coat are visible to the. (Think of the "old camera separation overlay" special effect beloved of Doctor Who, and other sci fi series, where wearing something blue (or green in some cases)would make the clothing effectively invisible so you could cut back to something else "behind" them which was filmed by a second camera.
