Two non consecutive pages from Young Avenegers Childrens Crusade One-shot

There's a complicated time-travel framing event of this multi-timeframe issues, which has Iron Lad meeting the adult versions of the Young Avengers (Tom Shepherd is Quicksilver, Ted Altman is Captian Marvel, Elijah is Captain America and so on) in the future, and him telling them a story of the very first few days of the Young Avengers to remind them who they were...


The YA at this point consists of Iron Lad, Hulkling, Asgardian and Patriot. They've just spent a session training against Iron Lad's stimuloids (sophisticated androids) of the Sinister Six (Billy is pleased Nate used using the original designs of the Sinister Six, whilst Teddy is pleased it's the original Sinister Six, he never liked Hobgoblin)

A fun Alan Davis fight scene follows, but then they decide it's date night. Billy and Teddy have plans with each other, Eli just wants to find a girl to date in the first place, and much against his better judgement, Nate joins them, he's incredibly unused to dating... or girls.... Fun nerdy discussion follow....



Yes, that is who you think it is with the mobile phone, but she doesn't play a big part in it.

Their date night is interrupted by them stumbling across Electro doing something.. villainous, but rather ill defined, and he's a whole lot nastier and more powerful than the stimuloid version they so easily defeated. We then get this page as they are recovering from his first attack.



My favourite sort of heroic motivation; the sort of hero who is scared shitless but acts heroically anyway, despite the fear! :)

Oh, and for those who were worried about the absence Future Billy, we do find out his fate in this issue, but I'm not going to mention what it is.

I was just trolling a Comic book forum, trying to understand why is YA #1 on a premiere list and getting frustrated that no one knows a thing.

Are Billy and Teddy dating at this point?

Nope, he's Bucky (which seems a little odd given the fuss that happened the last time they gave an African American that name), and there is a link between Eli, Falcon and Bucky which is not what I expected.

That's a damn dirty shame, because using Battlestar (or some -star variation if they're afraid of being sued by the producers of the TV show) would give them an excuse to use the throwing stars from the Patriot costume. Oh, well.

This was a fun issue, but it seemed a little superfluious in terms of the main story. Not that it wasn't cool, seeing Alan Davis drawn Billy. (He's gonna be at Boston Comic Con! WOOO!)

I loved one and only one of the future costumes. I can't say which one, but I think you'll know.

Oh completely pointless, but Alan Davis Billy is adorable enough for me to forgive it just about anything. And I think I do know the costume you mean, and it is very nice indeed. :)

I loved 3 of them. Cassie as a red Stinger (and the black parts seemed to be purple), Teddy as a green and white Captain Marvel, and Billy's Doctor Strange with Thor Helmet.

That was Wonder Man's deal for a while when he was first part of the Avengers. Since he "remembered" what it was like to be dead (even though he wasn't really dead) the thought of dying again seriously freaked him out. He got over it at a certain point.

More or less the point he realised he was functionally immortal, since he was no longer an organic life form, but an ionic one. And he was always superstrong and invulnerable at any rate.

It's the Doug Ramsey's of the world who impress me more! :)

Just read it. Now I'm convinced that Heinberg is trying to set us up for some Billy/Nate, with all the platonic hugging and life kissing and the line "he'd do anything for you". xP Has Billy always been that huggy?

Or, you know, alternately, Billy acting as slash fan liaison for mentioning Eli/Nate.

Yes, I'm just kidding, but in terms of fanfiction, not really.

I LOVE IT, DAMN IT. We've been waiting for a glimpse of how they interacted and trained together as a four man team, and just like the nice fanfics, they had training, they had comic geek moments, they had random gay lines thrown around for fun and sweet laughs.

What I find troubling though

Is that Nate is just... I mean, he's fighting against himself so that he doesn't become evil, because he's seen his future self in the abyss and is trying to avoid it as such... but according this comic, it makes no sense?

That's my main issue with the comic (and the fact that grown up Eli doesn't look like Eli). I think the costumes are a bit meh, but not everyone can be Bryan Hitch (in terms of costume designs), I suppose.

The good points of this comic out weighed the bad: I like how homosocial the boys are: epic bromance all around. I like how dumbstruck Eli was when he saw Kate on the phone (and the fact that he is a nerd - of course he is).

My biggest problem with this story is that Sorcerer Bill looks like Mandrake. Wrong face!
