Where's the rum?

G4 has the exclusive news to the big event for Spidey in August 2011.

Spider Skull Island

No, wait, that's not right.

Welcome to Plastic Beach Island
No, that's not it, either. (Nice place to visit to get your freak on, you know, though. *chortle*)

More rum, please!

*Glug-glug-glug*

Ahh, HERE IT IS.

Stuff like this that causes one to drink.

Huh. I guess that's why none Spider-Man's masks have shown his nose.

Wow! My least favorite writer AND my least favorite artist spawning an event that sounds so fucking dumb that I had better ideas as a 12 year old who loved the clone saga?

WHERE DO I SIGN?

Motto, except that Slott isn't my least favorite writer. That honor goes to Peter Milligan, who is going to be writing Red Lantern. We'll see how that goes.

Eh, Slott isn't my top writer by any means, but there are worse ones. And I actually like Ramos. (In a weird way, his art is often downright ugly, but it's just so gosh-darn *kinetic* and expressive, almost european)

I mean, if it was written by Chuck Austen and drawn by Rob Liefeldt we'd be talking.

I'm not sure if you could call that a comic anymore as opposed to printed pain.

Well, it would keep them occupied and contained in one book for a while at least, letting us easily avoid them. I think we could sacrifice one Spider-man book for the greater good, it's not like the books all follow the same canon anyway.

There's my problem with Ramos. He's great with cartoony and exaggerated, but terrible at realistic humans. So if it was a version of Spidey who never took his mask off, it'd be great. Otherwise he's just being misused.

Or if he was on a title whose tone actually matched his style, which he pretty much never is.

Eh, Peter Milligan is to me one of the more decent ones - he did a pretty cool treatment of the Rhino and another of the Scarecrow, two of my favourite underappreciated villains.

I can't actually say I've read those stories. I specifically cry when I think about his run on Animal Man (and not just cause he followed up Morrison) and X-Force/X-Statix.

Check out 'Spider-Man's Tangled Web', the first volume, if you're interested in his Rhino. It's a really clever, sweet story.

Hmm. I have read that. Is that where Rhino gets smart? Not a bad story per se as far as script, but like Milligan's other work, borders on stupidity rather than his intended cleverness.

I know this event doesn't sound that great but I'm kind of curious about the other heroes having Spidey's powers.

...Why? What's so terrible about this?

Yeah, this looks like it could be stupid, but that's true about just about every major crossover ever. At the very least, it should be interesting.

Two things, for me:

1) Quarantining Manhattan is something that should have major repercussions, particularly since the city is home to two teams of Avengers, as well as the FF.

First, there were "Hulked Out Heroes". Then Fear Itself looks to be giving a bunch of villains power equivalent to Thor. And now, we have "Spidey'd Out Civilians".

What's next? Give everyone Iron Man armor? Or maybe reveal that AIM has duplicated Cap's shield? This entire trend of making heroes less unique annoys me.

In all fairness, I would read the crap out of book where Iron Man armor was on the free market.

I'd have had simply the entire collection go to public auction piece by piece. Have anyone with a savings account or college fund suddenly getting a repulsor boot or thought-condensing-helmet. Imagine the moral repercussions of Tony having to take back one of his old chestplates from a man who bought it for his father, dying of heart disease.

"I, Tony Stark, promise to recover all the missing components of my stolen.... okay sold on e-bay, technology and I shall call this.... Armor Wars... what number are we up to now Pepper?"

"57 I think"

"ARMOR WARS 57!"

"Oh, and Stingray's lawyer asked me to remind you if you ever did this again, that if you come within 300 yards of him, he is allowed to claim your entire personal fortune and all the patents you own"

I agree with the crowd that this is likely pretty bad. I was holding out until I saw the images as CBR (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=31468) with the heroes in Spidey-esque costumes. At best, this is misleading like the skrulls as heroes ads, but my eyes burn and my head hurts with the stupidity that they even released this image.

I be fine with this and all but it appears this story is bringing back the Jackal. And if it's Miles Warren I only ask.. WHY? Didn't we learn from Maximum Clonage that big storylines and him aren't a good mix?

I preferred him in his late-90s/early2000s Romita jr. design. Big, bulky version of the suit with auto-triggering systems. That looked like a guy who could take out Iron Man. These days he's reverted back to being a joke villain.

...Being on Spidey's rogue gallery sucks. Not as much as being in his core cast, though.

'Fraid not...my issues are gone to the dogs. :( I remember he featured in "Peter Parker: Spider-Man" #83, then a two-part arc also featuring a surprisingly likeable Ninja-themed redesign of the Trapster in #85-86.

So will people be getting his Spider-Sense? The powers he got in The Other like the organic webbing or those wrist claw things?

Aside from the story clearly having huge logical holes, the show itself comes off as really annoying. All those pointless jump cuts are disorienting, and look like they're trying too hard to be hip and edgy.
