I'm guessing Moffat's borrowing from his own Doctor Who short prose story, "Corner of the Eye." It involved a guy who was being followed 24/7 by a malicious alien who always stayed just out of sight, past his line of vision. The alien was described as a little gray man in a suit, IIRC.
It wouldn't be the first time Moffat cannibalized from his prose Who stories for the show. He's taken quite a bit from his two others as well, "Continuity Errors" and "What I Did On My Christmas Holidays by Sally Sparrow." Especially the latter, as one might guess.
Oh man, I've read Continuity Errors but either that was before the Christmas special or the parallels just escaped me because of the change in setting.
So have others, the biggest one I can think of it the "Human Nature/Family of Blood" two-parter.
I suppose one of the awesome things about Doctor Who is that it has this giant collection of semi-canonical literature and radio plays that it can draw from to make spookier on the screen.
And I will admit I jumped when I saw the man/alien in the corner.
There are also two new teasers out for the Impossible Astronaut. One on BBC1, the other on BBC2, and in a typical fan-kerfuffle-instigating touch, they are identical, apart from one tiny little difference.
I do know a little something about the aliens in "The Impossible Astronaut" and it's a brilliantly Moffat-y concept, and should make for a great story.
Man that was eerie. Not in the 'ahhh!' jump-scare way, but it made me shiver a little. Definite Empty Child feel going on, which is one of my favourite stories, so that's a good thing.
I've been expecting something like that, and it's nice to hear it confirmed. Got me wondering the moment I heard Gaiman was writing, and when things about this two-parter got released... I loved series 5, but I engage with Moff's stuff best when he's doing the look-behind-you eerie stuff, so I have high hopes.
What do you mean, that comic wasn't made in the 90s?
Say, does anyone remember a scary video, like that Doctor Who teaser, about a guy working late in an office whose computer tells him he's going to die soon, and how. Turns out it's fright, since the scary thing is right next to him. Similar blocking and everything. If so, can you at least link me or tell me the name?
