Two Scans the explain ALOT

I have to say... this issue was EXCELLENT!

I will honestly say the last four or five pages even gave me a lump in my throat and brought tears to my eyes. I wanted to post so many more pages, but i decided on these. If anyone wants me to i will post more, or post them yourself! This, THIS was excellent. I really stuggled with this, i wanted to post the last few pages (as i said, it Really put a lump in my throat)...However,I decided on posting the part below, where Dr. Psycho explains what he knows because really that has been the big question on everyone's minds since this arch started. And if this issue is any indications.... "All will be well"

I skipped a page and decided to add this one because it actually made me FEEL for the perverse little bastard (if i am pushing it with the extra page let me know (If i could i would post the whole damned thing!!!!)

Talk!

I have almost no idea what's going on, but the art's pretty. Although I don't know if I picture Diana painting her nails on her day off.

And the crazy thing? Dr. Psycho is doing this.

Dr. Psycho, who once drove a woman's unborn child insane in the womb, who once removed a child's capacity to love his mother because they bugged him on an airplane.

And he's the one helping out Wondy here.

It'd be like if, during return of Bruce Wayne, when Batman was jumping all over time and space, he was about to give up, when the Joker suddenly comes the fuck out of nowhere and gives him a big pep talk speech.

Seriously, its so out of left field I can't believe it.

I don't think this is exactly our Psycho, so much as the alt-timeline's Psycho who can peer between them.

I was under the impression that not everyone associated with Diana had been changed by whoever did this to her - Donna and Cassie are curiously exempt from changes, yet Artemis, Cheetah and Giganta have been drastically revamped. So I think whoever's doing this to her is being selective.

I also don't see how Dr Psycho would really know or care that much for the 'real' Diana and show this new version the truth and try to explain what's happened to her if he wasn't the conventional version we know fairly well.

Yea. So in other words, this Psycho is a bit of both. One has the connection to Diana, another has the emotional detachment to not hate her but does have envy of that connection.

Oberon Sexton, the Gravedigger.

Though Sexton was actually a real person, the Joker just murdered him and stole his identity as Sexton's disfigurement allowed the Joker to wear a mask all the time without anyone wearing questions.

The Joker's goodish behaviour didn't seem to be like Psycho's here though, with Mr J it was more that Dr Hurt and co. had spoilt the game he had going with Batman by "killing" him, so he got revenge for depriving him of his toy by murdering them one by one while claiming to be investigating the murders.

Plus there's the whole deal that the Black Glove didn't understand the nature of Batman and the Joker's world, being "real world villains" like corrupt generals and stuff, so they personally offended him by ordering him about and not caring about his philosophy.

Maybe it's an "I'm the only one allowed to defeat you" thing? Psycho can't stand someone else getting the better of her, so he's working to undo it?

His creepy obsession explains it well enough, I think.

The woman he was fixated on is gone. He wants her back. Even if he made himself into the nemesis of this Diana - her Joker - it wouldn't be the same for him as being a second-tier enemy of the real Wonder Woman.

Which is a rather unpleasant motivation, but it's a believable one, which fits his character just fine.

I guess this means we've officially started the countdown to hitting the big magic reset button on this whole thing.
Which was both expected and neccessary.

I can buy Psycho's motivation here. Creepy Obsessed Stalker With Weird Sexual Issues is pretty much my general reading of the character and his relationship anyway.

This really smacks of Psycho Pirate and PG in her mini series - Now Dr.Psycho wants to show Diana her true path- I can understand it I guess but for my two cents I've already read this story a million times before- I would have liked at least one new take or direction- (the Diana as robin hood aspect was great- stealing if you will from her artifacts to hawk them for money for people in need) that seems like the Diana I know-

Oh good lord what fanfic crap. After a generation of determinedly jumping sharks, DC has finally come to this.

"I want to be your enemy for our emotional connection!"

OK, let's humor this sixteen-year-old boy's idea of a Reveal.

Edgar, Edgar, she didn't give a shit when you were slashing men's throats in front of her. She's a cold fish, to whom human beings are sort of like planarians to you and me. Well, to me, you useless sociopath. She will never love you, hate you, give a flying fuck about you. She's entirely self-involved, her heart is a mass of scar tissue around a core of ice. Do us all a favor & kill the both of you in time for the new TV version to reboot the trademark.

Wow, where did you ever get this reading of Wonder Woman? Is it because she's never really had a solid romance lead in her comics worth the name? Because that doesn't mean she doesn't love or care for people. Her characterization has always been full of love and care, even back in the cracked out bondage days.

The only Wonder Woman I can think of who matches your description is Frank Millar's. For the most part I've always seen Diana as slightly aloof, perhaps, but calling her heartless is a stretch.

Whu? The Diana who said she'd die a thousand deaths to save one innocent's life, and asked to restore the life of a child over getting her eyesight back? Who threw away her lasso, the gift of the gods, because it wasn't worth one strand of her sister's hair?

When I'm sleep-deprived I get weird. But yeah, between Di's inconsistent characterization & the desire of writers to get an emotional response by constantly dragging her through hell, sometimes she seems shell-shocked, maybe too depressed to act. I'm thinking of the Rucka run in particular.

I've been in Wondy fandom so long I'm shell-shocked. I'm looking forward to the new TV reboot; maybe it'll have some joy or heart that the comics lack.

I've never been one to like giving total psycho weirdos pitiful motivations, but I guess this being an alternate universe Psycho (I think) and him just being so pathetic, that it's passable.

From: [personal profile] nevermore999
Huh.

It almost makes this whole mess worth it to FOR ONCE have it be DIANA who's intrinsic to the universe and so special and important people are targeting her and not alwaysalwaysalways Superman and Batman. About fucking time, though I doubt another comic will ever acknowledge it.

But not really.

I might pick up this issue though, just because I'm glad to see that happen for once. Hester seems like he has some respect for the character, maybe he'll actually do a good run once we get back to real Diana.

I kinda feel like new Psycho's motivation (that he's in love with Diana) is a little annoying. Like, of course Diana can't be threatening, Psycho must only fight her because he wants to bang her!

More that Promethea was (in the narrower sense) Diana, and (in the much broader sense) any mythic hero that has been reinterpreted, retold and retconned by new creators for new audiences.
