The Bloodlines conclude with this annual! We head back to L.E.G.I.O.N (they're the folks who first investigated the Parasite ship in the Lobo Annual via sending Lob and Layla to find out what was up).
So...just where did these Parasites come from anyway?
18 pages of a 55 page story.
Our tale opens up as the LEGION forces are investigating the rift in person now that Dox and crew have arrived to where Lobo and Layla are. They've also, after hearing about how tough the Parasites Lobo and Layla fought, brought backup in the form of a bunch of paid bounty hunting redshirts who consider themselves tough.
After pushing into the rift they're surprised to see...
They're not stars but planets covered in flames. The crew decides to go investigate this burning world when suddenly a tentacle erupts from the world and grabs the ship.
Lobo and Layla exit the ship and slice the tentacle off.
The three are getting into quite a tussle and are unable to communicate with the man until Captain Comet uses his telepathy to bridge their languages.
Soon enough they convince him they're not Parasites when he sees their ship, something his people never saw before.
Whoo boy, talk about bad strategy. Pax also brings up that he's been attacked by the Parasites since many times, apparently getting stronger with each attack and also gaining the power to sense them to a degree and avoid them (as well as his high levels of strength and endurance).
While Pax anguishes over his species' fall, especially given his part in it he's preparing to end the Parasites attack on his world once and for all.
His plan is to take the bomb to the mountain where the Parasites gather.
Lady Quark and Pax have a bit of a heart to heart with Pax mentioning his lovers name was Anya and that while he feels a great pain for being the reason his people died he particularly misses her.
And so the Parasites reveal themselves. The six on Earth are nothing compared to the dozens that show up and attack.
But when they catch up to Pax they get quite a surprise.
It's a gigantic Parasite that has millions of larvae on top of it.
They realize the larvae aren't used to light so Lady Quark lets out a big blast of light and renders them immobile.
And so the LEGION crew begins their escape. Pax runs to get something and returns just in the nick of time grabbing onto the ships bay doors.
(The amulet of his lover Anya)
And Lady Quark manages to grab the chain of it and pull Pax into the ship closing the doors before the decompression from space would destroy the ship.

It's a shame, after Bloodlines/Bloodbath ended Pax never did show up to my knowledge even though he should've in a few cases.
Still, even this story leaves many questions. Did the Parasites truly originate from this pocket universe? How long ago did they ravage these worlds? Just how did Pax's powers function anyway?
Still, I do like Pax. His powers are a bit generic but that's not a real detractor, he had a bit of a white whale/Moby Dick fascination with the Parasites, though for good reason. And even if their are no Parasites he could just as easily fit into a number of scenarios trying to protect people's lives at all cost trying to atone for his past.
And now a little ad from the issue that gave us an easy to access list of the New Bloods though their are a few omissions of the lesser known New Bloods like Channel-Man (from the Psybarats) and oddly enough Samaritan, even though they included Cardinal Sin, as well as a few odd descriptions.
