Another Fun Finale: Sensational She-Hulk #60

Yesterday's Doom Patrol Finale got me thinking about other fourth wall breaking endings for comics, and naturally, I thought of the end of Sensational She-Hulk





The story starts with Morris Walters, Jennifer's dad, showing up on her doorstep. He's been in a long distance relationship with Louise "Weezi" Mason, the former Blonde Phantom. Weezi has been Jennifer's sidekick for most of the Sensational run. Morris is hoping to take their realtionship to the next level, and so...

Meanwhile, Jennifer's longtime boyfriend Wyatt Wingfoot, announces he has to go back West to deal with some tribal issues. So today just couldn't get any worse for her...

One quick visit to Jennifer's closet full of high tech weapons, and she's ready to go fully Liefeldian on these guys.

And shootyness ensues! Which leads to the final confrontation with the queen!

More fighting! and finally Jennifer gets wise and deals with this bug problem the sensible way...

And now we find out who the monster really is!


And then everybody goes home to find out the book has been canceled...


There's another page of She-Hulk addressing the audience and making a big speech, but I figured it best to keep it down to the final page.



And there's the end of Sensational She-Hulk! Even though John Byrne was off the book at the end, I do think Len Kaminski, Scott Benson, and Pat Oliffe did a good job with the series at the end, but clearly not enough to keep the numbers up. Oh well, it was pretty good while it lasted.

Marc Spector is very much the Moe Syzlak of the Marvel U, even down to the 'nobody-likes-him' factor and the initials.

Now, if someone were to give him a completely new angle, maybe...what if he was given a MAX title? Or maybe some sort of crazy Matrix-esque virtual reality story in which he leads a non-existent superteam whose personalities are based on his old hallucinations?

I loved this series! Thanks for posting this. Also, Marvel is finally republishing it in trade paperback collections! The first volume just came out a week-and-a-half ago.

Pretty much. One of the longer story arcs involves her and Howard the Duck (with help from the Critic, a parody of the Watchers) driving through various universes to combat Dr. Angst and the Band of the Bland. (She had also fought Dr. Bong in an earlier issue.) At another point she goes to space with US Ace and Razorback and ends up meeting Rocket Raccoon and the D'Bari. Throughout pretty near the whole series, the fourth wall does not exist, which beyond simply talking to the audience is used for things like instant changes of clothes between panels or walking across panel gutters to get to the other side of the country. At one point everything goes white and Jen has to tear open a hole in the blank pages in order to get back into the story.

It was an homage to John Byrne's #1 cover. Which I thought was a fun little call back.

It was a good thing that I hid all my other Marvel books on Krypton or She-Hulk would have ripped them apart.

Wait, What do you mean Krypton is not a part of the Marvel Universe and that it has exploded?

Jen should take roach villains more seriously. It was a hive of SHIELD-infiltrating sentient roaches in the She-Hulk graphic novel that got her frozen and unable to take on her original Jennifer Walters form again for years and years.
