Since everybody here is getting Thor-fever (and it is a jolly good film), I thought I'd post some of The Art of Thor

and also some of Ultimate Thor being not quite so ultimate and more like about to get his ass kicked in Ultimates 2 #4 by Captains America, Britain, France, Italy and Spain

I have that awesome Loki vs. Thor battle scene as my very awesome wallpaper ever since watching the movie; it's just so awe-inspiring :D

The concept art of the movie are all really cool; would be nice to see like a comic-graphilization of the movie instead of the usual written novelization.

When I went to see the film, my friend commented on the sheer ridiculous glory of the way Thor incapacitates Loki. That's a very Ken Branagh kind of cleverness, and I don't think I've seen it used in the comics.

I was laughing out loud and just flat-out impressed by the solution too! It seems so obvious now that's it been done, and you're right, I've never seen it being used before either. The only downside is that Thor can't really do anything if he does it that way too, but otherwise, it's downright brilliant and embarrassing at the same time!

Yeah, that was pretty clever--I thought Thor was going to help Loki up, but when they showed the hammer laying on Loki's chest, I laughed. :D

IIRC it's been done in the comics before but I can't remember where. A variation of it was recently used in the Hulk #26 where Thor dropped Mjolnir on Red Hulk's hands so he couldn't move.

What? No Captains' Canada or Lichtenstein? How disappointing.

Not sure how much of that was in jest, but that's sort of the point. The story has Wolverine quitting the Avengers because they goof off to much, so Captain America inducts him into his "Captains Courageous" team as the newly minted Captain Canada.

So even worse, it's just Wolverine with a paint job, and probably written by an American to boot! Fail.

Marvel's art books are always pretty lush. I love the one for Iron Man, and I want the one for Thor so I can see some of their ideas for adapting the very out-there Kirby designs - Some of which really came across in the movie, and others were much more subtle.

And that panel right there is one of the reasons I hate Millar's Ultimates (as much as it does have some really cool moments); Is it just me, or is Cap's response written in such a way that we're meant to get the feeling he wants to beat the crap out of Thor?

"Is it just me, or is Cap's response written in such a way that we're meant to get the feeling he wants to beat the crap out of Thor?"

I think there is a bit of that--at that point, Ult Cap probably just thinks of Thor of a dirty, angry hippie with a lot of power. I think the key difference between Ultimate Cap and 616 Cap is that in the 616, while Cap was shocked and, in some ways, horrified by the world he found himself in, he ultimately embraced it when he joined the Avengers. In the Ultimate-verse, however, it seems like he rejects a lot of it, prefers his own time, and almost would rather not be there.

In general, Ultimates 2 wasted no time in squandering the promise of the first volume. Loki comes up with the most ludicrous story imaginable--that there's a secret superpower skunk-works project in some Scandinavian country, capable of the sort of large-scale energy manipulation and teleportation that Thor showed off in Ultimates 1, and this crazy guy just walked in one day and stole it--and the rest of the team picks up the idiot ball and runs it all the way to the end zone. Plus, of course, plenty of the heaviest-handed Iraq War/GWOT allegories possible.

I don't think 2 was as good as 1, but I thought it was pretty clear that the idiot ball was due to Loki messing with people's heads; look how easily Fury believed Cap was the traitor.

Mmmmmaybe. But Loki has, literally since time immemorial, been more of a classic trickster--lying, playing people off of each other, disguises, etc.--and for people to have to retcon some sort of direct mind control in order to explain away idiot plots doesn't really help Millar any.

That version could rewrite reality. Sorcerer with thousands of years of experience, remember? Other countries were developing super soldier programs, and even though the Avengers think Ultimate Thor is crazy, he's not stupid.

Way late reply, but I don't think I'm retconning it in, I thought it was explicit in the text - he even had Thor half-convinced he wasn't a God, which is beyond trickery and into mind-control.

Saw it today.

WOW. WOW.

Did not expect it to be so good so fast. First act and BOOM epic action, Thor being mighty god that he is. Awesome.

Walked out very satisfied (aside from all the annoying Dutch angles).

Seconding the Dutch Angle complaints. I didn't mind them until they were used for the tenth time in the first fifteen minutes, or at least that's how it felt. When they did the Dutch Angle after the Destroyer battle, it momentarily took me right out of the film.

So far, that's my only immediate complaint, although I'm sure more will come when I properly scrutinize the film. For now, seconding your "WOW"s.

My sister loved the show and she usually doesn't like superhero-based shows XD But she looooved it. She wants to go with us to watch Captain America, then the Avengers. Her mind was blown when I told her Clint Barton would be important.

Captain Italy only showed up because of the guilt trip, Captain Spain came along for moral support, and Captain France was there to posture and flex ironically. The mighty Captain Germany pleaded prior commitments and stayed home to look in the mirror.

And none of the other captains invited Captain Turkey, because they all privately think he smells.

Is me or has the Marvel Military have just now taken special interest in Thor after he spent 20-30 years being casual with the citizens? Remember how Thor or Herc would just be mello with Marvel Citizens before they flip-flop with whoever is in charge...

As plot points go, it does make sense, these are foreign nationals with god/demi-god like powers, some sort of military interest makes sense. (Perhaps SHIELD has been keeping an eye on them all along, superceding the need for a more blatant military interest.

Remember how Thor or Herc would just be mello with Marvel Citizens before they flip-flop with whoever is in charge...

They are both thousands of years old, and have thousands of years ahead of them (barring incidents) they've probably learned to be fairly laid back after all that time. Humans may get all het-up, but they have mayfly lives by comparison. If you don't like the current administration, just relax, you won't just outlast them, you'll outlive them.
