Two pages from Batman, Inc #6

Finally this title is getting to what I was hoping it was. I know people loved the recruitment of the first few titles, but this issue is all about Bruce Wayne taking control of Batman, Inc.



Old allegiances are reaffirmed(The Outsiders gains a new leader and the identity of the Hong Kong representative of BI, Blackbat, should make many people here happy), oaths are implied, giving membership into Batman Inc some gravity, seeds are planted, new villain Nero Nykto is not what he seems... in short, the issue is full of the kind of greatness that Morrison brought us in the early days of JLA.

But these two pages were my favorite(and leave two more for others to post later)

Okay I'll give Morrison credit thats kind of clever.

Not really convinced by it though. Conspiracy theories are fine, but if there is proof the truth tends to emerge, and with Dick and Damian in particular, their ID's are pretty poor. Plus it wouldn't be random online nuts who would be putting this together, respected reporters and media outlets would make it their mission to find out the truth and a few messageboards wouldn't make a difference.

When he does stuff like this (poking fun at himself with the whole "everyone will know BW is Batman" thing or in a round-about-way with the whole dumb - IMO - Hush masquerading as Bruce storyline) I really like Morrison.

And I was really betting that the first scans from this issue posted would be of "BlackBat" - probably my happiest surprise from DC of the year - especially coming from Morrison who's never seemed to be at all interested in using the alter ego of "BlackBat".

Hush masquerading as Bruce was alllll Paul Dini's idea. It happened to fit with Morrison's story (i.e., no-one would be asking where crazy ol' Bruce Wayne had disappeared), so you could read Batman & Robin and/or Dini's book and they wouldn't hugely contradict each other.

But, yeah. Very stupid idea, I thought.

"People buying shares" seems to indicate that this is part of Wayne Enterprises and thus a for-profit venture, to go back to a previous thread.

I've read it as 'People are buying shares in Wayne enterprises because they know that the money might somehow end up in the hands of a Batman and that's AWESOME'.

At least for me it would be to imagine that I contributed 0.00000002€ to the grapple hook that Batgirl used to do a somersault and kick some punk's teeth out.

Hey, my point in the last thread was that if you're going to use for-profit vs non-profit to consider something imperialistic or not, it should be because an enterprise is trying to establish economic dominance over other nations. Here, people are seeing what's going on and saying, 'wow, this company is cool, I want to own a part of it!" It's not like Batman Inc. is making a profit off the nations it helps.

I'm disappointed to see that Gotham's premiere chat site uses CBR software, not 4chan's style of image boards.

Considering, from what I've seen, CBR was the place where a LOT of the theories about Morrison's run have been, I can see why they'd do that place as a shout-out when they're talking about Batman squashing theories. :D

Yay, Blackbat! I suggested Blackbird a while ago, to give her some distance from the cave and put her closer to the chicks of prey. But this works. Costume is close enough to her One True Costume, but needs more mask. Yay! Blackbat-Batgirl teamup!

In other news, speaking of names, my revulsion for the Filthy Bastard Midget grows. So it's "Grayson", "Drake", "Fatgirl", and -- for some reason this bothers me most -- "Pennyworth". Bruce he calls "Father", like he's "Number One Son" in the Chan Clan or something. Hate to break it to you, you little kiss-ass, but your actual father is a Petri dish.

For what it's worth, Pennyworth is the correct term of address for an English butler. It would actually be very rude to call him Alfred in a stately English home. That's for footmen etc. Obviously Bruce, Dick et al do things the American way, but I don't find it a stretch that the al-Ghuls go European.
