Request: Marvel Super-Heroes Vol. 2 #15, The Theft of Thor's Hammer

As per requested here's the story that adapts the Thrymskvitha poem, Marvel Thor style.




So our story starts with Thor flailing around a flame sword and a foot stool, because that's the perfectly reasonable thing to do when someone steals your stuff.

The Gods think the Jotnar are attacking until Thor tells them Mjolnir is missing. "Fault me not for saying, Thor, but thou art no housekeeper" Freya tells him "Coulds be possible that thou hast merely mislaid thy mallet" to which Loki responds that while that's possible it is a fact that Mjolnir was stolen. Thor suspects him and Loki just laughs and lets on that he knows something but when Thor starts threatening him he spills the beans saying that he will simply tell him only because he finds the whole thing amusing.

Apparently Loki was flying over Jotunheim when Thrym signaled for him and pretty much tells him about the hammer

The Warriors Three tease Freya about it, and she gets an idea.



Poor Thor, but I'm amused as to how much Loki is really enjoying this

Really, really, enjoying this.

So they arrive at Jotunheim and Thrym starts playing the whole Red Riding Hood/Big Bad Wolf thing with Loki and Thor

And so they feast and Thor is not very lady-like and Loki gives him excuses.

Thrym is disturbingly horny and acts like sweaty and disgusting creep throughout this whole thing (I really thought he was going to jump Thor, seriously) and he tries to sneak a peek at his bride.

Seriously though he saw Thor's whole face and he didn't notice he wasn't Freya, either he just focused on his eyes or Thor is just very pretty.

So they bring the hammer and Thor has just about have enough.

And yeah they all perish and Thor just doesn't want to speak about this ever again.

Oh, Loki you lovable bastard you.


This story was fun, and it was nice to see Loki having fun at his brother's misfortune instead of just trying to kill him, you know he could have devised a plan from taking Mjolnir for himself but seeing a suffering Thor in drag and being hit on by a Frost Giant was really more important to him (Plus Thor really makes a pretty Bride).

So this was 7 pages and one panel from an 83 page comic. This comic also had an awesome Volstagg story about him telling his kids about the time he saved Asgard from Frost Giants, but if you OTP Volstagg and his wife this might upset you a bit (I know I was especially when Volstagg's kids go all yay when the Enchantress kisses him, I mean she pretty much confirmed he wasn't lying about his awesome adventure but I know another lady that wasn't my mom macking on my dad would really make me want to punch them).

Killing all the giants seems like excessive retribution to me. They just took your hammer, dude, it's not like they hurt you or anything.
