Just picked up  Superman #711 and who does appeared that I didn't expect to see?

Oh man. Straczynski, Roberson, and Barrows did their research. Serling's speach and outfit is JUST how I remembered her back when I read her in Superboy's book back in the 90s. At least now she broke free of that cameo in Countdown...

yeah, leave it so Roquette to make that cheap blue suit into something better.

Since Serling is an obscure character, here are 3 panels that show how awesome she is.

Yeah, young biologist prodigy and has the taste for the retro, unlike that Fussy Mary in the "Young Justice" episode which she built that the ever so "original idea" of nanites... hope this means she'll get more appearances... thought he last time I had for DC for bringing characters back was when they printed that "Shazam" One shot right before Osiris depowered Freddy...

She also got mentioned in Birds of Prey not too long ago. Or maybe it was a while back, I tend to live through trades.

It's cool to see them acknowledge the old Superboy stuff. (It also feels weird that there's "old Superboy stuff.") One of my favorite moments of the Francis Manapul run on Superboy is when Krypto fetched a bunch of his old villains.

Good. I was sore over the idea they were making Dubbilex a bad guy. Odd that Kryptonian DNA would make someone a bad guy, as Evil!Dubbilex only seemed to have psychic powers.

Oh man that Electric Superman Blue outfit! Quick thinking there. I wonder: what is the average length of time it takes for a Dork Age that must never be spoken of to transform into a continuity gag for the fans?

Also, I just love Jimmy Olsen. I think I always have, but I never really noticed it until recently.

Like if they ever brought it back I can pretty much only see it being 1. to take one more shit on her / her relationship with Superboy, and/or 2. kill her again.

So I mean, better off forgotten, you know?

Man it's a shame nobody can ever bring Superman, Batman, Green Arrow, the Joker, Doctor Doom, Hal Jordan, Superboy, Ben Grimm, Reed Richards, Sue Storm, the Anti-Monitor, Jason Todd, Bucky, Max Lord, Deadman, Aquaman, Hippolyta, Darkseid, Thanos, Adam Warlock, Namorita, Namora, Jean Grey, Magneto, Colossus, Ultimate Beast, Ultimate Magneto, Ultimate Doctor Doom, Ultimate Gwen Stacy, Aunt May, Norman Osborne, wait, what were we talking about again?

True enough. I think they're just retroactively uneasy about their "Teen of Steel" dating a much older woman.

*headdesk* Are you REALLY this obtuse..? She was a COLLEGE GRADUATE when "Reign of the Supermen" STARTED. Superboy was biologically in his early-to-mid-teens and chronologically about a week "hatched" when they met. It wasn't as big a deal in the 90s, I guess (Hell, Kon got away with X-ray peeping an ENTIRE BEACH as a gag in his book back then), but in today's witch hunting political climate the idea of a woman in her 20s dating a teenage boy, much less one with the emblem of their main character on his chest, is PROBABLY something the current editorial staff of DC would like to downplay.

The fact that she's also a minority probably doesn't help her case either, considering how many non-whites in the DCU get fitted for Frigidaires these days.

"in today's witch hunting political climate", Superman renouncing his U.S. citizenship didn't even rate as a nine-day wonder. No one outside of comics fandom is really going to care who a part-human clone bumps uglies with, regardless of whether she's nineteen or ninety-nine. Lighten up.

...actually, the reason it didn't rate was because of a little thing like Osama Bin Laden being killed kinda reminded folks that real life takes precidence over superheroes. Read a newspaper.

You still read newspapers, grandpa? Srsly, though, you're still not providing much support for your thesis, which is that DC is deathly afraid of The Secret of Tana Moon getting out. There were at least a few days between DC making its press release and OBL getting popped, and the news was already dying on the vine. Most people who aren't into comics would be falling asleep halfway through even a relatively short summary of Kon-El's history; all you'd have to tell them is that he was biologically eighteen when he was decanted, and that anything to the contrary in continuity was an "editorial mistake", and they'd buy it. There are so many other things that would-be latter-day Werthams could pick on in comics; as Alan Moore put it back in the eighties, during the whole comics labeling controversy, if they really wanted to go after comics, all they'd have to do is note that DC Comics was (at the time) located at 666 Fifth Avenue in NYC.

tl;dr--no one who isn't already a Conner fan cares about it as much as you do.

Or simply say that Conner was really just a youngish-looking adult, because of the uncertainties of the genetic engineering process, because of Superboy-Prime punching a hole through time.

OK, I need to explain one thing to you: I am attempting to explain WHY I think she's being ignored. THIS DOES NOT MEAN I AGREE WITH IT. I HATE what was done to Tana Moon, I HATE that so many elements of not just Superboy's past, but of SEVERAL characters I cared about are being so messed up (look what they did to Dubbilex, fergawdsake). The DCU from "Identity Crisis" on seems to thrive on throwing everything that I actually collected DC Comics for under a friggin' combine harvester and it PISSES ME OFF, and Tana's fridging and subsequent ignoring is simply ONE of MANY complaints I have with the current editorial administration.

I'm not picking a fight with YOU, I am simply trying to explain what things look like from my jaundiced and irritated point of view.

Tekka! Man, oh, man, I miss Tekka. She was all kinds of crazy awesome.

I'd say they need to bring her back, but given what I know DC's treatment of women with a predilection toward engineering , no...just, no.

So to explain the obscure character from almost two decades ago that DC is reviving, you used her referencing an obscure character from over two decades previous to her appearance? Cool.

Jimmy can't pull off the classic bowtie and sweatervest without looking like a hipster, and they should stop trying. A regular tie, maybe, but the bowtie is so hopelessly anachronistic.
