Harvey had a small supporting role in a two-part storyline where Jean-Paul Valley broke into Arkham Asylum looking for one of his old enemies. Unfortunately, he ran into a whole lotta released inmates, led by the Joker, who was using Harvey (and his coin) to judge where they should take their fun. The story itself is so unremarkable that I can't remember the plot details (it doesn't help that I don't own the preceding issues of Azrael), but it does feature a couple moments of Harvey crack, most notably these panels:

... ewwww. Welp, I don't think anyone's going to try taking his coin now.

I love Harvey's stunned and even helpless look: "Why coin no come down?" That said, I certainly hope Azrael washes his glove later. We know where that coin's been.
Over the course of the story, Jean-Paul gets knocked out and is awakened to find himself naked, with the Joker wearing his armor. Awk-ward! The bad guy (the one whose cybernetic design SCREAMS "the 90's") manipulates Jean-Paul's Azrael programming to unlock the badass killer inside the naked pretty boy and proceeds to light the Joker's hair on fire:

That has to be one of the more ignominious takedowns that Harvey's ever suffered, particularly as his reaction is less "How DARE you?!" like a proper villain and more, "Hey, not cool! Ow!" I love when Two-Face is written to play with the themes of fairness, even at points like this where he almost sounds like an angry child. Which, as we've seen many times, is often how many writers view the manifestation of Harvey's mental illness.

Date: 2011-05-31 08:26 am (UTC)Second, don't promise me captive naked blond pretty boys and then have them wearing briefs, it's very disillusioning.
Third, oh look a female inmate at Arkham who isn't Ivy (and this predates Harley's inception into the DCU)... what's the bet she's never heard from again?
Fourth, don't they EVER consider not putting all these nutcases costumes in the same building as them?

Date: 2011-06-02 12:24 am (UTC)Was that Samantha or Vox? Either or both of them are Alan Grant characters, I think, and neither made any major appearances.
Neato! What Bronze Age DC stuff will you be posting? Any classic Batman stuff? I'd love to read some little-reprinted appearances of Riddler, Scarecrow, Croc, and/or Ivy!
