Wow, you sure have a huge chip on your shoulder, huh?
I don't want Barbara Gordon to swing around, I like having an intelligent computer hacker character. I like that there is a tactical command type of character. Sort of like the old Suicide Squad, when somebody was behind the scenes running the whole thing.
However, I also think that, if the situation comes to it, Barbara can get physical. I mean, Amanda Waller may be the mastermind tactician, but she can still shoot a gun.
It's not so much a chip as it is burning antipathy for Birds of Prey fans. You all say you want a smart, tactical Oracle but you squee and applaud the complete opposite. I mean, when was the last time we saw Oracle behind the scenes "running the whole thing?"
Was it the last arc when Hank Hall was the guy who suggested using his invulnerable self to fool Calculator when they blew up the helicopter? Was it when Batman had to save her from rolling down the alley and nearly getting shot?
Was it the arc before that when she...if memory serves...kind of hung around her base while Canary and Huntress did all the work in Asia? Was it when Savant and Creote fooled her and then abducted her from the Batcave?
Maybe it was during one of her times in the Batgirl comic, like the last one when she was abducted by Calculator's zombies and had to be rescued by Batgirl and Proxy. Maybe it was during The Cure when she didn't stop Calculator from killing people as she hopped around the world, since, you know, that's how you chase down an Internet criminal.
Maybe it was before that, when Calculator stole her jet, broke into her base, and burned it down before she took off on her own. Or maybe when she let the Joker into her base.
Do I need to go on? People don't want to read about Oracle hanging at base, directing the mission, and being a mastermind. The writers don't even see her as that kind of character any more. Feel free to disagree or get upset with my calling it what it is, but this is just DC giving what they perceive as their fans what they want instead of trying to halfheartedly write what a vocal Internet minority says it wants.
I'm not really sure if you're directing this at me or not, because I seem to be mostly agreeing with you and you are treating me with hostility.
Oracle has failed a lot in the past couple of arcs. And certainly, some writers don't know how to use a computer hacker character properly. But I feel like Gail/Grant were getting Oracle back into the clandestine, tactical command/hacker business. At least that's what the plans seemed like to me. From the newest issue of BoP she was running the show, telling everyone what to do, and planning everything out.
And then they throw it all away, so there is no way to redeem the character.

I apparently lack the language to convince you that the same person you were pinning your hopes on to correct Oracle was both the same person who steered her so vastly off course and who is now writing her as Batgirl, so I'm ejecting from this conversation before I say something that will get me banned.
