Look out! By the end of this hot new miniseries, the Huntress will have the largest price on her head in DC Universe history.
What will the Huntress do that warrants such a death mark? And who puts it there? The jaw-dropping events will be revealed as the Huntress heads home to Italy and embarks on a mission that defines her life. Don’t miss out, because this story will tie in to upcoming events in BIRDS OF PREY!
Paul Levitz has something of a history with the character, as he's credited with Joe Staton and Bob Layton for co-creating (in 1977) the Helena Wayne version of the Gotham City-based vigilante (daughter of the pre-Crisis Earth Two Batman and Catwoman). That version was killed during 1985's Crisis on Infinite Earths, her existence erased from the new post-Crisis unified timeline, and she was replaced with the similarly-looking Helena Bertinelli version, now the daughter of a Gotham crime boss.
Since this 2011 revamp Huntress has Italian roots, we're going to assume the DCnU version of the Huntress will likely remain Helena Bertinelli.
So THAT'S why Huntress isn't with the Birds of Prey in DCnU...
Also PAUL FREAKEN LEVITZ???!?! YES!!!!

(Is that the first positive thing I've said about DCnU? I think it is. I should mark a calendar.)

Date: 2011-07-14 02:33 pm (UTC)Honestly, for all of DC's talk of "DIVERSITY" you only have one female creator, and they seem to be treating her like shit compared to all the other male (mostly white) creators.

Date: 2011-07-14 03:05 pm (UTC)Oracle being in BoP is something of an issue if 'Oracle' is still Barbara Gordon and Wendy isn't taking the role or whatever. But if it isn't, then again, it's not her issue.
Simone's clearly not the only one being messed around here when Morrison, for instance, was on record as saying that Batman Inc was 24 issues, and now he's suddenly saddled with a maxi-series wrapup to his story because of what the higher-ups want to do.

Date: 2011-07-14 05:43 pm (UTC)Fact is, Adam Glass likely wouldn't even have a Suicide Squad with King Shark and Deadshot if it wasn't for Gail's work on Secret Six. Suicide Squad is DC's sad attempt to replace Secret Six.
((Gail's not upset about BoP, but she is bothered that they didn't tell her about King Shark and Deadshot))
I think it would be a courtesy, because otherwise it seems like they are trying to keep her in the dark about the new universe she is helping create.
And I know about writers don't own them, they aren't their creations, blah blah blah, but it's all part of RESPECT for your writers. I'm kind of sick of the way the Big Two treat their writers and artists. Especially, because some of them have said that they don't like the way they are being treated.

Date: 2011-07-14 06:13 pm (UTC)And if the writers and the artists of the big two are that badly mistreated, they should leave. Most of them are big enough names that they could easily get a good deal doing a variety of indie books where they'd have total control.
As it is, they work for one of the Big Two, and they have to know that it's company rules, as far as they're concerned.
