Cap Movie Post!
Jul. 18th, 2011 11:31 pmGreetings True Believers!
I'm hopping on one foot to see the new Captain America movie. (Already got my tix for the Thursday midnight show!)
We need more posts about it!
So here are two things. First off, an adorable clip of kids reacting to the trailer. My reactions to their reactions range from "Awwww" to "You only say that because you don't understand Captain America like I do!"
Plus, a clip from the movie I don't think has been posted here yet.
Enjoy!
Those darned kids! :)
"I CAN DO THIS!"
Legal for America!

When that one kid says girls can watch it, too, because Cap takes off his shirt...X,D
now I'm hyped again.
And I want a movie with CAPTAIN GERMANY! He'd be some crazy dude who makes chidren eat Sauerkraut! (that stuff is healthy, man! and tastes nice. The French don't know anything!)

Date: 2011-07-19 08:45 am (UTC)Haven't felt that way about a movie since Lotr: The two towers
I've seen several other clips on the IGN site where the Shield fight post here was linked to.
While it's pretty much just the uncut clips from things we have seen in the various trailers, they still look pretty damn cool.

Gotta love the internet. When I was but a lad in my LCS I never could have imagined discussing Cap with someone from Denmark!

Date: 2011-07-19 12:16 pm (UTC)I think I have to look at the early Jet Li or Donnie Yen kung fu movies to find a scene where I saw the main character dispose of so many foes so "casually" as that.
Very smoothly stunt choreographing and editing indeed.
Have the exact same feeling as you do about the internet. Sure, when I was a boy I always imagined it could take place if you had several screens you could use to talk to people all over the world like in the old Flash Gordon movies, but how I would get in cotact with fellow comic book fans always eluded me. XD
One of the things I like in the two clips I posted is the tension that seems to rise in Peggy whenever she looks at Steve.
I can definetly see the attraction to him when he is all beefcakey, but I'm looking forward to see what he does that puts such an impression in her.

Date: 2011-07-19 09:45 am (UTC)I happen to think Cap is a great character reguardless of his patriotic connotations (modern day Paladin tbh), but i've seen a few news publications raise the question of wether or not Captain America has an audience anywhere but America.

Date: 2011-07-19 10:25 am (UTC)What news publications?
Hey, if Spidey, Batman and Iron Man movies rake it in overseas, Cap should do fine.

Date: 2011-07-19 10:45 am (UTC)But at least it's not 300. That movie was really an offensive farce of propaganda, but unfortunately sometimes other countries don't understand the principles that movie studios act independently from government.
We brits like it well enough though, I think general opinion finds it almost just another tacky american thing (and people who like superhero films will go see it)- there's more concern about the Prince Harry kidnapped movie thing. Due to Will and Kate there's more pro-royal feeling about than I can remember.

Date: 2011-07-19 01:16 pm (UTC)I'm sure some people'll watch another movie if they have the choice because they don't know the Cap character, and consider him little more than american propaganda, but that's the same problem that any movie based on the works of say, Jane Austen is facing.
The moment a character or a setting is following a specific cultural or national setting it's bound to discourage some viewers, but hey, we're all individuals with differnet taste .
I dont think people here'll find Cap politically insensitive (well, the neo nazis and the extreme right wing muslims we have here obviously, but they find everything that they don't like politically insensitive, so who cares what they think.)
I think that the writers/producers are well avare of that, and is going to give his PATRIOTISM and his DOING WHAT'S RIGHT attitude equal screen time so it'll blend nicely together I hope. (Yes, IMO Caps patriotism and sense of right and wrong is two fully functionable seperate entities ;o) )
And I'm sure that people all over the world can get behind Cap in the fact that we all love seeing nazies getting punched in the face.
So I think Cap'll do okay overseas, not as great as in the U.S. obviously, but he'll do fine.
Personally I became a fan of Captain America back when Brubaker took over so you bettter believe that I'm going to watch it BECAUSE IT'S CAPTAIN AMERICA.
If I hadn't started reading Brubakers run and became a Cap fan, I would still as a comic book geek go watch it because;
1, When Cap is involved in a story, you know that the stakes are going to be insanely high, and insanely high means some kickass storytelling and insanely awesome action.
2. I've never seen his patriotism as a bad thing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with loving your country. God may bless America, but that don't mean he damns the rest of the world.
3. Sometimes it's just so nice to watch a movie where there is a clear definiton of right and wrong, where the heros moral compass isn't broken and you still root for the good guy even though the bad guys have all the cool equipment and uniforms. To see a movie where it's just good old fashioned fun to watch the good guy kick some major deserved ass.
Should his patriotism be tuned down a bit to accomodate new viewers?
Hell no!
In general I think that if you make a movie based on any different medium you damn well keep as true to the source material as possible.
It shows you respect the fans who have been loyal to the franchise, and that you have the common sense that if any concept is good enough to make a movie of, you keep to the themes that made said concept a success to begin with.
That's one of the reasons I loathe the Constantine and Catwoman movie so much.

"Money is profitable"
Girl don't care if Catwoman's a villain, she's cool.
Rainbow shirt kid is awesome.
Achingly ironic comment of the day:
"[Superman] can't die"
