A Superman without a Clark.
Jul. 20th, 2011 04:01 amGreetings True Believers!
I've been inspired by Domino Blue's post below so I'll be taking a rare dip into the DC pool.
Back in 2004 DC had a mini-series were Wildstorm hero and Superman analogue Mr. Majestic landed in the main DCverse.
Now, Mr. M is quite different then Clark and it's been rubbing this Earth the wrong way.
Stop me if you've heard this one before. Two superheroes walk into a diner...
Enjoy!
Mr. Majestic walks into a diner and the place clears out. He orders all of the breakfast specials and since he doesn't have any local currency, crashes a pencil into diamonds.
Superman joins him.

I thought that was amusing and both men brought up good points. The whole mini is pretty good.
Request! If anyone knows what issues and series show Mr. Majestic in Metropolis interacting with Lois and the bunch, I'd love to know. Thanks!

Date: 2011-07-20 10:50 am (UTC)Every other time you see heroes of different worlds / mindsets meet up, there's always that slightly disapproving "my-way-or-the-high-way" attitude -- even JLA / Avengers had Superman and Captain America sniping at each other all the time. Here, on both sides it seems to be more an 'agree-to-disagree' thing. Nice.
I hate hate HATE how this artist does noses, though.

Wasn't it just earlier in this one? I don't remember too much interaction, but it had some issues before Superman showed up.

Date: 2011-07-20 03:04 pm (UTC)Majestic does appear to have the best interests of the world at heart, but they are by his own definitions, and he doesn't care what the world actually wants.

Date: 2011-07-20 05:23 pm (UTC)This is also why I had severe problems with the Mary Marvel storyline in Countdown and Final Crisis where her going over to the darkside was treated as a joke and not taken seriously- even within the story itself, even by people like the Riddler. In reality, especially after what happened with Black Adam in 52, if ANY single member of the Marvel Family ever went rogue the whole world would be on alert and the JLA better get out the big guns and take it SERIOUSLY. Except DC itself doesn't, so the characters didn't and the story sucked.

Date: 2011-07-20 07:12 pm (UTC)But you're right, I hadn't really thought about it at the time but what the hell where they thinking? Interesting that during the whole dark!Mary thing, AFAIR, she seemed to be in Super Mode all the time, she was never just the normal sister of normal Billy Batson.

Second,
I like Majestic. I haven't seen him before but even if they tell his character as one with cut and dry justice, he isn't cruel, plus his methods come more pragmatic than over superior.
